Jerry Yan (Chinese: pinyin: Yán Chéngxu) is a Taiwanese actor, model, and singer, born Liao Yangzhen (Chinese: yángzhen) is a Taiwanese actor, model, and singer.

He is best known for his lead role in the Taiwanese dramas Meteor Garden and Meteor Garden II, which is an extension of a Japanese shojo manga.

He is also a former member of the boy band F4 team.

Jerry Yan was born Liao Yangzhen in Taoyuan, Taiwan. He is of Atayal and Hakka descent.

Career

After winning the 1998 TVBS Modelling Competition and Men's UNO modelling competition, Yan became a model in 2000. He began filming commercials and appearing in music videos. Jerry started his acting career in 2000. In "Spicy Teacher" his first job, he plays a supporting role.

Jerry came to fame in Taiwan's hit drama Meteor Garden and its sequel Meteor Garden II, winning the hearts of Asia. He played "Daoming Si" in the highly popular Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden and its sequel Meteor Garden II. Jerry and the other cast members of Meteor Garden continued to perform together and released three studio albums as the quartet boy band F4 at the end of the series; Vic Chou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu followed him as the quartet boy band F4.

Love Scar's television series attracted over 10% viewers in 2002.

Jerry for You, Jerry's debut solo album, was released in 2004. At the IFPI Hong Kong Album Sales Awards, the album was named one of the "Top 10 Best Selling Mandarin Albums of the Year" at the Hong Kong branch of IFPI. At the China Top Music Awards, he also received the "Best Album" and "Best Newcomer" awards (for the Hong Kong/Taiwan region). He appeared in the Hong Kong romantic comedy Magic Kitchen with Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng, marking his debut in the film.

Jerry appeared in The Hospital, a critically acclaimed Taiwanese medical drama. It was the first Taiwanese series to be imported by Japan's NHK for broadcasting.

Jerry appeared in the sports comedy Hot Shot, alongside Wu Chun of Fahrenheit and Show Lo in 2008.

Jerry starred in Starlit, co- Required by China's China Central Television, Taiwan's Jam Entertainment, and Japan's Geneon Entertainment. The rights to the show were broadcasting rights were also sold to 15 countries. At the Sky Perfect TV Award, the series also received "Best Overseas Drama" at the Sky Perfect TV Awards. Freedom was Jerry's second solo album in the same year. According to Taiwan's G-Music chart, the album is Taiwan's ninth best-selling album in 2009. The Japanese version ranked No. 1 on the charts. On the daily chart, there are two options and No. In Japan's Oricon Chart, there is 8 on the weekly chart. He then performed a solo show in Japan; due to high demand, two additional shows were added. Jerry was the only Taiwanese artist to win "Best International Artist" at the Best Jeanist Awards. At the South East Music Chart Awards, he also earned "Asia's Most Popular Singer" award.

Jerry appeared in the China-Taiwan co-production Down with Love with Ella Chen of S.H.E. Despite having its episodes leaked in Taiwan, the show managed to land first place in TV show ratings. He then released My Secret Lover, which featured soundtracks of The Hospital and Hot Shot sung by Jerry.

Jerry was selected as the "Most Popular Taiwan singer in Korea" by Asia Buzz Awards. He was also rankedphysics as one of the "Top 10 Singers" in Singapore and Taiwan. On Channel V's Fresh Asia Charts, he came 6th, his highest ranking for Taiwanese singers.

Jerry appeared in My Splendid Life, a Korean hit drama called Brilliant Legacy, which was released in 2011. The series attracted 100 million viewers on Youku and dominated the ratings charts for several weeks. He was named Best Asian Star at the Asia Model Awards in Seoul last year.

Jerry appeared in Taiwan's costume film Ripples of Desire, directed by Zero Chou in 2012.

Jerry appeared in Loving, Never Forgetting, opposite Chinese actress Tong Liya, portraying a single father. He appeared in the Japanese heist film Lupin III: Necklace of Cleopatra based on the manga of the same name, alongside Shun Oguri, the lead actor of Meteor Garden's Japanese version, and Kim Joon, one of the leading actors of the Korean version of Meteor Garden.

Jerry made a special appearance in the highly acclaimed youth film Our Times as the adult version of the male protagonist, Xu Taiyu, in 2015. He appeared in the Chinese television series My Best Ex-Boyfriend for a while.

Jerry was cast in the Matchmaking Battle in 2019.

Jerry is starring in the romantic comedy drama Count Your Lucky Stars alongside Shen Yue in 2020.
