Jed Allan Brown (March 1, 1935 – March 9, 2019), better known as Jed Allan, was an American actor and television presenter best known as C.C. Capwell on Santa Barbara, Don Craig on Days of Our Lives, Rush Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210, Brent Johnson on The Bay, and the host of Celebrity Bowling.
Personal life and death
Allan was married to Toby Brown from September 21, 1958, until his death in 2001. Mitch, Dean, and Rick were three children of the couple. Allan was born in Palm Desert, California.
He died on March 9, 2019, eight days after his 84th birthday.
Life and career
Allan studied Drama at the University of Washington, where he majored in Drama. He supported himself as a radio and television announcer and sportscaster while attending college. He appeared in several Broadway shows including Viva Madison Avenue!, Oliver!, and Barefoot in the Park in the 1960s.
Allan appeared in numerous soap operas. In 1964, he made his debut as the troubled Ace Hubbard on Love of Life. In 1964-1965, he played college professor Paul Britton on The Secret Storm. Allan was one of many actors to play Paul, and he was involved with the show's leading heroine, Amy Ames. Allan replaced future Santa Barbara co-star Nicolas Coster in the role. Don Craig, who appeared on Days of Our Lives from 1971 to 1985, is best known for his role as Don Craig, who appeared on the program from 1971 to 1985, and his departure occurred when several of the show's veteran cast members were writing out in order to place more emphasis on younger characters. His fans were outraged by his expulsion from Days of Our Lives. His character was abruptly written out with no explanation. When he took over the role of C. Capwell in Santa Barbara from 1986 to 1993, he attracted a new audience. Allan appeared in Beverly Hills, 90210, as Rush Sanders during his time on Santa Barbara.
He began playing Edward Quartermaine in GC Hospital in 2004.
Allan's most notable television presence outside of soap operas was when he appeared on Lassie from 1968 to 1970 as Forest Ranger Scott Turner, who with fellow ranger Bob Erickson (played by Jack De Mave) served as the collie dog's chief human companion during the 1970s.
He appeared in several made-for-television films. In 1981, he hosted Celebrity Bowling as well as a game show pilot Temptation.
Allan appeared in several episodes of Adam-12. Reno West, a nimble robber who was known as "Take a little, leave a little" due to his M.O., he played Reno West. In the episode 'Capture' (season 6, episode 9), Reed and Malloy were finally caught by him.
Allan wrote a book titled Please Spell the Name Right in reference to his name's often misspelled word. The book is about his 50 years as an actor collaborating with other actors and was first published in November 2004.
