Jazzie B Career

Life and career

Jazzie was born in London, United Kingdom, to parents of Anti-Independence, the ninth of ten children, and many of whom were pioneers of sound systems in the 1960s and 1970s. Under the name Jah Rico, he had his first job in 1977 and was with colleagues. In 1982, he changed their working name to Soul II Soul. Soul II Soul was used as a umbrella for many of his projects, including the sound system, a clothing line, and a Camden record store, as well as the company itself.

Jazzie and Soul II Soul will perform what would be described as a landmark night at the Africa Centre in Covent Garden from 1985 to 1989. "Fairplay" was a Soul II Soul track that was released just before the group began to find greater success. In the 2003 compilation "Soul II Soul At The Africa Centre", the nights at the Africa Centre will be commemorated.

He founded Funki Dreds in March 1991 and tagged Lady Levi and Kofi, the singers.

He will also host a show on then pirate radio station Kiss FM, which will continue through its legal license and into 1997. Jazzie B hosted the "Back 2 Life" radio show on BBC London 94.9, which he later purchased to Mi-Soul in 2014.

Jazzie has created and remixed songs for Incognito, Maxi Priest, James Brown, Kym Mazelle, Cheryl Lynn, Teena Marie, Johnny Gill, Ziggy Marley, Nas, Destiny's Child.

He is the founding director of the Featured Artists Alliance.

He has a son Mahlon who plays professional football for Cardiff City, Jessye (an actress) and a daughter Jessye (an actor).
