Jay Patrick Lynch (January 7, 1945 – March 5, 2017) was an American cartoonist who was instrumental in the underground comix movement, including his Bijou Funnies and other titles.
He is best known for his comedic strip Nard n' Pat.
His name is often written Jayzey Lynch.
Lynch was the main writer on Bazooka Joe comics from 1967 to 1990; he contributed to Mad, and in the 2000s, he ventured into the children's book industry.
Personal life and death
Jane Lynch, Lynch's first wife, was a regular contributor to comics in the early 1970s, as well as articles she wrote for Arcade #3 (an interview with Bill Griffith's character Zippy the Pinhead) and Skywald Publications' Psycho #17 (a tale titled "The Lunatic Class Of '64," illustrated by Emilio Bernardo). For twenty years, Lynch and his second wife, Carol, have been married.
Lynch died of lung cancer complications in Candor, New York, on March 5, 2017.
On March 31, 2017, a memorial to Lynch was held at the School of Visual Arts Amphitheater in New York City. Art Spiegelman arranged and moderated the event.
