Career

Harvey began his kart racing career at the age of nine. He won the MSA Super One British title by a single point in 2006 and the Kartmasters British Grand Prix, both in the ICA-J category.

In 2007, Harvey became a pilot for the Italian Maranello team in the newly established KF3 class. He gained four trophies by the end of the year, with the Andrea Margutti Trophy, another Kartmasters title, the Italian Open Masters championship, and the European Champion in KF3.

Harvey also became a Asia-Pacific champion for the 2008 season after being signed by the Birel Motorsport team as a KF2 racer.

Harvey began his Formula BMW Europe career with Fortec Motorsport in 2009. Harvey is a member of the Racing Steps Foundation, which aids young British drivers in achieving success in the national and international series. With a win at the Masters of Formula 3-support round in Zandvoort and two poles at Zandvoort and Monza, he finished seventh overall in the championship. Following his success, the British Racing Drivers' Club appointed him as a member of their "Rising Star" group.

Harvey ended the year as vice champion after a tense match with Robin Frijns, the eventual champion. Harvey had a seven-point lead over Frijns and extended his lead in the final round by taking pole position in both races; unfortunately, Javier Tarancón was pushed out of the track in the first race.

Harvey and Carlin competed in the British Formula 3 Championship in 2011. In his first season, Harvey finished 9th, with one win and four podiums. He set his sights on winning the championship in 2012, but decided not to do so with Carlin.

Jack Harvey was the 2012 British Formula 3 champion after 7 victories out of a total of 12 podium finishes. Jack Harvey led to 319 points in 29 races. Harvey was given a ride in the Formula Renault 3.5 rookie competition after winning the championship.

Harvey joined Lotus GP in the GP3 Series in 2013 and retained the Racing Steps Foundation's support. In the current BRDC Formula 4 series, Harvey was named official driver coach for Sean Walkinshaw Racing in the same week.

Harvey then moved to the United States and joined Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the Indy Lights series, the established junior feeder series for the Indycar Series. He ended the season in second place in championship standings after winning four victories and ten podiums in 14 races. As a result, he was also named the best-performing British driver in North American motorsport, winning the British Racing Drivers' Club's Earl Howe Trophy for 2014.

Harvey returned to Schmidt Peterson for the 2015 Indy Lights season. In 16 races, he won two victories, six second-place finishes, and 12 top 5s, placing him runner-up in the overall standings, behind Spencer Pigot.

Harvey made his IndyCar debut at the 2017 Indianapolis 500 in partnership with Andretti Autosport. On lap 65, he came to a 31st after being hit with tarmac from Conor Daly's car. Harvey upgraded Sebastián Saavedra (who himself had replaced Mikhail Aleshin) at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for the final two races of the season later this year.

Harvey rejoined Michael Shank Racing for the 2018 IndyCar series as part of a technical partnership with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for six races.

In 2019, the Meyer Shank Racing team expanded its racing calendar to ten races. Harvey ran in all of the categories in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Harvey and Meyer Shank Racing will run on a full schedule in 2021. Harvey and MSR made strides throughout the year, particularly in qualifying, where Harvey was often a Q2 or better qualifier throughout most of the race weekends. Harvey revealed during IndyCar's summer break that he would leave Meyer Shank Racing at the end of the year after being given a contract by an undisclosed team. Harvey would race for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2022, according to the newspaper on October 11, 2021. He'll be driving the #45 Honda Hybridee sedan.
