The Netflix series follows a group of eight terminally ill patients at a hospice care center in Brightcliffe in the 1990s. Every night, they tell each other scary tales, with each promising to give the group a sign from beyond the grave if they died. But besides that, eerie mysteries about Brightcliffe have been levied. The new series, which premiered on Netflix on October 7, doesn't waste any time celebrating the nostalgia. Ilonka's character, Iman Benson, attends a college party where Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain" by Cypress Hill dominates the loudspeakers in the first scenes. Later, when she learns she has terminal cancer, she uses a truly retro desktop computer with dial-up internet to Yahoo's "surviving thyroid cancer."
