Ilene Kristen Career

Career

Ted Steele's Dance Party, the bandleader's first television appearance, was on broadcast in 1961.

When she was 14 years old, she was performing on NBC's The Bell Telephone Hour as a dancer for the first time. Matt Mattox, the show's choreographer, brought her on board. Kristen was a dancer in Henry's 1967 musical Henry, Sweet Henry, based on The World of Henry Orient. This was the first of many collaborations with choreographer Michael Bennett, with whom she later appeared on the television show Let Us Entertain You (starring Robert Morse) and the movie Pinocchio (with Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits).

She was on the road with a comedy revue called The Six New Happenings in her senior year of professional children's school. The revue appeared in Dallas and Houston. They were booked in the largest room at the Sahara Hotel in Lake Tahoe. However, when the Sahara realized that the majority of the cast members was under age, they had them kicked out and replaced by Johnny Carson.

In the show Steambath, she was supposed to replace the lead actress, but it was postponed until Kristen took over the role. Its producer Dick Scanga felt sorry for Kristen, so he gave her a job in his production company. She ended up working odd jobs on Broadway productions, including catering the opening-night party of Lenny (which later became Bob Fosse's 1974 film) and gold-leafing in Robin Wagner's scenery department for Jesus Christ Superstar. In the 1971 comedy film Preacherman, she made her screen debut in the female lead role.

Patty Simcox was the first woman to audition for the role in Grease (1972), in which she appeared for two years.

She auditioned for and gained the role of Delia Ryan in the ABC daytime soap opera Ryan's Hope in 1975. She appeared on the show until 1979, when she moved to California. Why Would I Lie, a film shot in Los Angeles. Treat Williams is the lead. She appeared in The Lady in Red as Winona (her scene was with Christopher Lloyd), then did an episode of Family. In 1982, she appeared as Peter Falk's sister-in-law in a stage adaptation of Knives, which was written and directed by John Cassavetes.

Georgina Whitman appeared on television in 1982 as Georgina Whitman. She appeared in Strange Behavior (1983-84), which culminated in her appearance in NBC's Saturday Night Live. She appeared in Charles Strouse's and Warren Leight's Mayor, the musical based on Ed Koch's memoir of the same name. Leona Helmsley was one of many characters on "Queen of Meant."

Kristen was asked to return to Ryan's Hope in 1986 after appearing in Moss Hart's Light Up the Sky. Kristen, who is also an actor, says that her last four years at Ryan's Hope were pleasant ones because the writers gave her a lot of funny stuff to work with. Kristen played around the club circuits from 1986 to 1990, appearing with rock bands and jazz musicians at Mikell's in the Upper West Side. Cowboy, her second off-Broadway performance, was a musical tribute to the life of painter Charlie "Kid" Russell.

Kristen spent three years at Ryan's Hope, the Prince George, as a homeless shelter. She was the children's first exposure to the theatre and movies through the Children's Aid Society. A group of these children appeared on several episodes of Ryan's Hope later this year.

Norma Gilpin, a dees-doze broad from Brooklyn, appeared in Loving from 1990 to 1991. She was joined by Tony Award-winning actor and director Walter Bobbie, who had originated Roger in the Broadway production of Grease alongside Kristen in 1972. Kristen did three off-Broadway productions: All That Glitters, Trust, and The Goodspeed Showcase. On Another World, she was also Madeleine Thompson, an alcoholic wannabe socialite.

Kristen served as the co-artistic director and literary manager for Musical Theatre Works in the late 1990s alongside Gordon Greenberg. She moved to California to appear as one of the film Angels with Angles' producers, Frank Gorshin and Rodney Dangerfield.

Roxy Balsom, the gambling, beer-guzzling, and always-inappropriate hairdresser, was on One Life to Live when she returned to New York City in 2001. She was arrested the day before the events of September 11, 2001. At that point in time, she had begun to question the value of acting; she'd always seen it as a healing art, and felt that the kind of character she wanted to make should be amusing, vivacious, and funny; people needed it. She played Roxy Balsom for ten years before deciding on Roxy Balsom for ten years. Kristen was nominated in two separate Daytime Emmy Awards in 2004 and 2005 for her role as Roxy in One Life to Live, and she was ranked in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.

She appeared on GM as Delia, her character from Ryan's Hope, from 2013 to 2015. Kristen appeared on a number of television shows, including Law & Order, The Sopranos, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Unfortable. She appeared on GM in the fall of 2013 as Delia Ryan from Ryan's Hope, Ava Jerome's natural mother, and made occasional appearances as the storyline dictated.

Kristen is a promoter of the burgeoning digital series genre and appeared on the Daytime Emmy-winning series The Bay and Pride: The Series. Dolly Faye, a Mélange actress, appeared in 2018. Morgan Fairchild appeared in the pilot, and was written and produced by Tom D'Angora.
