Hermann Baumann (born 1 August 1934) is a horn player, academic lecturer, and composer. He began his musical career as a guitarist and jazz drummer and then went to horn at the age of 17. * He studied with Fritz Huth at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and then played principal horn in various orchestras, including the Dortmunder Philharmoniker and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. His career as a soloist began in 1964 when he received the first prize in Munich's prestigious ARD International Music Competition. Since then, he has appeared on numerous solo and chamber albums, including "Virtuo Horn," which was released in 1994. * He has performed pioneering work in Baroque music and also in the revival of classical performances on the natural horn. In 1999, the Historic Brass Society rewarded him with the Christopher Monk Award for his lifetime contribution to music on old instruments. Baumann worked at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen for 30 years and at horn conventions around the world.
