The true victims of the HS2 fiasco are people who were robbed and left homeless

Broom Manor is an elegant 19th-century mansion - or, at least, it was once aspired - near the upmarket town of Knutsford in the heart of Cheshire countryside. It boasts seven bedrooms, stables, adjoining cottages, and a central courtyard. 'The high-end living space includes sumptuous bathroom and kitchen fittings, a sophisticated look with period details mixed with sleek modern technology,' is how an estate agent marketed the property shortly before it was auctioned for £1,385,250 in July 2014, much less than what it was worth.' Because the rail link to Manchester was now cancelled north leg of the rail link, owner James Hilton had no choice but to accept the bid from HS2 Ltd, the government-funded company that was responsible for providing the train link to Manchester, because it would have scythed through his garden. His property, as well as scores of others in Cheshire, became worthless on the open market the moment it was revealed (in 2013).

Rolls-Royce's luxury car manufacturer will have a British boss for the first time in 14 years as long-serving CEO Torsten Müller-tvos has announced his resignation from the company's leadership at the end of next month. Since Claude Johnson, the man who brought Charles Rolls and Henry Royce together in 1904, the German is the brand's longest-serving CEO. Chris Brownridge, BMW UK's current chief executive, will take over the reigns starting 1 December, will be in charge of the company's next chief executive. Roll-Royce Motor Cars' last British CEO was Müller-tvos' predecessor, Ian Purves, who left the Goodwood firm in 2010.
