Frank Hornby, an English entrepreneur, businessman, and politician, died on May 1863 – September 21, 1936.
He was a visionary in toy design and manufacture, and although he had no formal engineering education, he was responsible for the invention and production of three of the twentieth century's most popular lines of toys based on engineering principles: Meccano, Hornby Model Railways, and Dinky Toys.
In 1908, he founded Meccano Ltd, a British toy company, and introduced Meccano Magazine, a monthly journal. Hornby's inventions and schemes made him a millionaire in the 1930s, and he took up politics in 1931 as a Conservative MP for the Everton constituency.
Hornby's legacy has lasted long after his death, with fans from all around the world still making Meccano models and collecting his toys.
