Britain's Got Talent returned to screens on Saturday night, and is seemingly already off to a promising start. According to overnight figures, the launch episode of series 17 saw an average of 5 million viewers tuning in, with a peak of 5.8 million. Liz Truss sang 'Moving On Up' by M People, sung by the mother of a Labour councillor. As she attempted to turn around her floundering premiership, Prime Minister Theresa May selected the 1990s classic song ahead of her first conference address as Tory leader. The choice of 'Moving On Up' as critics blasted the song's lyrics, prompting one of the band's founders to claim it was "sad" to see it used by "this shower of a Government." Heather Small, MPeople's lead singer, was also a Labour councillor on Westminster City Council, according to MPeople's son. Ms Truss had made the 'right choice,' according to James Small-Edwards, who represents the Bayswater ward. This ill and out of touch Tory Government is really going to fail,' he said.
