Harold Perrineau (formerly Harold Williams; born August 7, 1963) is an American actor.

He is best known for the roles of Michael Dawson in the U.S. television series Lost, Link in The Matrix films and games, Augustus Hill in the American television series Oz, Damon Pope in the FX bike gang drama Sons of Anarchy, and Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet.

He starred in ABC's comedy-drama television series The Unusuals, playing NYPD homicide detective Leo Banks and has appeared in several high-profile films, including The Best Man, 28 Weeks Later, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, and Zero Dark Thirty.

He also starred with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin in the survival drama The Edge.

Perrineau currently costars as Dean Simms in the TNT series Claws.

Early life

Perrineau was born in Brooklyn, New York City. His parents changed his name to Williams when he was a child, but he later changed it back, after discovering there was already a Harold Williams in the Screen Actors Guild. He attended Shenandoah University and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Personal life

Perrineau has been married to former actress and model Brittany Perrineau (née Robinson) since 2002. They have three daughters, including actress Aurora Perrineau.

Career

In 1989, Perrineau was cast as the original Tyrone Jackson in the world premiere of the 1980 hit film Fame (now known as Fame: The Musical) at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He played Link in the Matrix series after the original operator Tank was written out of the script when Marcus Chong was dismissed for financial inconsistencies. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, a lost co-star on the HBO series Oz, co-starred Perrineau.

On ABC's hit show Lost, Perrineau played Michael Dawson. He was briefly written off after his character left the island with his son at the end of season two and did not appear in season three. In July 2007, it was announced that he would return to the main cast for the show's fourth season. However, the return was short-lived, as this was his last appearance as a regular cast member. In the sixth and final season, he made one guest appearance.

Perpetau appeared in 30 Days of Night: Rhys Coiro, Mia Kirshner, Kiele Sanchez, Diora Baird, and Monique Ganderton. Perpetuau appeared in the 2008 music film "Yes We Can."

On January 2, Perrineau portrayed the title character from Marvel's Blade anime series. He was chosen to play Damon Pope, the main antagonist of season 5 of Sons of Anarchy.

In the TBS comedy Wedding Band, Perrineau appeared as Stevie, the bass player.

In Constantine, Perrineau starred Manny, an angelic messenger, in the short-lived 2015 television series based on DC Comics/Vertigo character John Constantine.

He made his Broadway debut in Anton Chekov's The Cherry Orchard, adapted by Stephen Karam, in Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Cherry Orchard. The play ran from September 2016 to December 4, 2016. Perpetau played Lopakhin, with Diane Lane as Ranevskaya. Perrineau appeared in the Amazon Studios legal drama Goliath in 2016.

Perrineau played Dean, a man on the autism spectrum and Desna's brother, in TNT's Claws from 2017 to 2022. At the NAACP Awards, he received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. For the bulk of season 2 and as a visitor on season 3, Perrineau starred as Nick Armstrong, a cop, on The Rookie.

Perrineau has been focusing on his musical career since his debut single "Stay Strong" in 2007. On his debut album, Seeker, he's actively working with music producer Tomo in der Muhlen, known as DJ Tomo Tom Tom Tomo. "Moving On" was the first single to be released on October 15, 2011. Perpetu is fond of live shows; two guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards. In April 2010, he appeared with The Mint in Los Angeles. Perpetau appears in MKTO's "Thank You" music video and J. Cole's "She Knows" music video.
