Hans Krankl Career

Club career

Krankl began his career at Rapid Wien and spent eight years there, apart from a year at Wiener AC. In 1978, he won the European Golden Boot at Rapid Wien, attracting Barcelona's attention. His time in Barcelona was fruitful, winning the Cup Winners' Cup (scoring in the final itself) and winning the top goalscorer's award in La Liga this season with 29 goals. He returned to Rapid Wien in 1981, captaining the team and scoring over 100 goals for them over the next five years. He was instrumental in the 1980s' most popular Rapid teams, winning the League crown twice, 1983 and 1983, as well as three consecutive Austrian cup titles. In the Cup Winners' Cup Final in 1985 against Everton, he scored Rapid's only goal in the 3-1 loss. He rose to become a player-manager at Wiener Sport-Club in 1986.

Krankl was named Austrian Player of the Year five times over the past five years, and he was named the most popular Austrian player of the last 25 years.

International career

Krankl made his Austria debut in a friendly match against Brazil in June 1973, and was a spectator at the 1978 and 1982 World Cups. He had 69 caps and scored 34 goals. His last international game was against Hungary in April 1985. He was the best goalscorer for Barcelona in the 1978-79 span of the Spanish Primera División, winning the Pichichi Trophy.

Krankl scored six goals as Austria defeated Malta 9-0 winners in a match against Malta in 1977.

One of his major contributions was helping Austria qualify for the 1978 World Cup for the first time in 20 years. He then went on to score the winning goal against West Germany in a game dubbed The miracle of Córdoba, which the Austrians won 3–2 and was Austria's first victory over West Germany in 47 years, earning Krankl legendary status in his homeland. Austrian football fans are immediately recognized after scoring in the 88th minute, the goal's live stream remains on national television, and the audio commentary ("To Tor Tor Tor Tor Tor Tor Tor, I werd' narrisch" – "Goal goal goal goal goal goal, I'm going crazy") is immediately recognized by Austrian football fans.

Managerial career

Krankl has worked as both a football manager and coach since retiring from playing in Austria Salzburg in 1989. He was recruited by the Austrian national team. After Austria failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup, he was fired on September 28, 2005. He was also the boss of LASK Linz.

On Austrian public service broadcaster ORF, he has also appeared as a studio visitor and co-commentator.

Musical career

With several new releases making it to the Austrian charts, Krankl has also enjoyed domestic success with his music. The single "Lonely Boy," released in 1985 and peaking at number two, was his biggest musical hit.
