Andreas Weimann Career

Club career

Weimann, a native of Vienna, began his career with FC Stadlau before joining Rapid Wien as a thirteen-year-old. He remained in the area for three years before being signed by Premier League team Aston Villa, joining the team alongside fellow Austrian Dominik Hofbauer. Since being told that he still supports Rapid, he has since stated that he supports it.

Weimann played for the team during the 2009 Peace Cup against Juventus, Atlante, and Porto. The striker was a vital figure in Aston Villa's Reserves, especially in the 2009-2010 season, filling the void left by Nathan Delfouneso, who finished the season as the Reserve South League's top scorer with nine goals.

Weimann signed a contract extension, extending his stay in the reserve following an impressive stint in the reserves until June 2012.

Weimann was named in the provisional squad for the final match of the season against Blackburn Rovers on May 8, 2010, after impressing boss Martin O'Neill during the Reserve Play-off Final against Manchester United. However, he was not one of the final 18 players selected.

Weimann was a member of the Aston Villa team that defeated the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament on May 16th. A hat-trick against the Yau Yee League Select of Hong Kong was a highlight of his cup appearances.

Weimann, a Weimann, scored two goals for Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly against Walsall on July 27. Weimann came off the bench to appear for the first team in a home friendly against Valencia, Spain.

Weimann made his full league debut for Aston Villa on August 14, 2010, replacing Ashley Young as a replacement in the 86th minute against West Ham United. Kevin MacDonald, the Villa's caretaker boss, announced Weimann in his 20-man squad against former team Rapid Wien in the UEFA Europa League on August 19th; he arrived as a replacement for Marc Albrighton after 79 minutes but then was admitted three minutes later. He was out of action until January 2011, when he returned to full training.

Weimann signed for Watford on a loan for the remainder of the 2010-2011 season. In the FA Cup loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, he made his Watford debut. On February 1, 2011, he made his league debut against Crystal Palace at home and scored in the game. During his loan period at Watford, Weimann continued to play for Aston Villa's reserve team because he was only on a youth loan. Players can continue to represent their parent clubs, but only for youth and reserve teams. He played 19 times in total for Watford, scoring 4 goals.

Weimann returned to Aston Villa for his first appearance of the 2011-12 season in a home tie against Hereford United. Villa defeated Darren Bent in the second half of the tournament, earning him a 2–0 win. He signed a new deal on August 26th to keep him at Villa Park until 2014. Weimann came to Watford in a second loan agreement before January 2012. Throughout August and September, he appeared in three Championship appearances for Watford against Birmingham City, Reading, and Barnsley. However, it was revealed on September 23rd that Weimann had been sent early to deal with escalating injury worries.

Weimann came straight into the squad for the away game against Queens Park Rangers after he returned to the club.

Fans were calling for Weimann to get some first team participation with Darren Bent, who was forced to miss the season due to an injury picked up at Wigan.

Weimann's first goal for Villa in the 92nd minute was a win over Fulham on March 10th, having appeared as a replacement for Charles N'Zogbia. Gary Gardner's goal was triggered by Gary Gardner's shot when it was rejected by the Fulham keeper, but Weimann retaliated quickly, becoming an instant fan favorite. He scored a goal against Stoke City on 9 April in a 1–1 draw and was on the verge of finishing second in the game.

Weimann's two goals against Manchester United at Villa Park on November 10, 2012, and both goals showcased Weimann's tenacity and shooting prowess. Weimann was subsequently 3–2 to Manchester United, but the Villa Park audience erupted him, but the match was eventually concluded 3–2. Weimann scored two goals for Villa on December 11, 2012, beating Norwich City 4–1, who advanced to the League Cup semi-finals. He scored Villa's second goal away from Liverpool after a good partnership with Christian Benteke, indicating a strong relationship and mutual confidence between the two teams. On January 1, 2013, he scored against Swansea City again, being assisted by Benteke. He scored an 83rd-minute winner in an FA Cup third round match against Ipswich Town on Saturday, advancing Villa to the fourth Round later this week. Weimann, a replacement who came back from the first leg, scored a goal against Bradford City in the semi-final second leg. However, Villa's 89th-minute goal came too late, as they were eliminated after losing 4–3 on aggregate. Weimann finished the season with 12 goals in all competitions, averaging a one-goal to three appearance ratio.

Weimann opened his scoring for the 2013–14 season on August 28th, 2013 with a 25-yard (23 m) shot against Rotherham United in a 3–0 victory in the League Cup. In a 3–2 loss to Manchester City, his second was the decider, a month later. Weimann scored two goals against Hull City on May 3rd, a game that resulted in a 3–1 victory and guaranteed Premier League survival.

Weimann scored the team's first game of the 2014-2015 season against Stoke City, where he scored the team's first goal in the 50th minute. In a 2–1 victory over Hull City on August 31, 2014, he recorded the ball from ten yards out, his second goal of the season. Weimann went down by 2–1 at Villa Park, losing a narrow cross from Charles N'Zogbia from 15 yards out for his third game of the season. This was Villa's first game in 5 games. Weimann scored his second goal in a 2–1 win over Villa Park in FA Cup 4th round tie against Bournemouth.

Weimann joined Derby County on a four-year contract on June 18, 2015. In a 3–0 victory over Rotherham United on October 31, 2015, he scored his first goal for the Rams in the 7th minute. Weimann, who had only played in one league match during the 2016–17 season, joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the season on January 19th.

In a 3–1 loss to Norwich, he made his club debut on January 21, 2017 and came as a replacement. In a 2–1 FA Cup victory over Anfield, he made his first appearance and scored his first goal for the club.

Weimann signed for Bristol City on a three-year deal with the option for a further year for an undisclosed fee. Bristol City defeated Sheffield United 3–2 at Bramall Lane on March 30, 2019, giving the total number to 9 in the case, his highest figure in any season. Weimann scored his first career hat-trick. His hat-trick was the first a Bristol City player to score away from home in England's top-two tiers since Kevin Mabbutt in 1978.

Weimann scored 22 goals in the 2021–22 season, his highest goal tally for a season.

International career

Can Leicester return to the top of the Championship? The Foxes are 1/2 favourites with Sky Bet to return to winning ways and beat play-off hopefuls West Brom

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 19, 2024
The Championship promotion race is in full swing with Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton, all in the hunt of a return to the Premier League via a top two finish. It certainly marks a considerable difference from mid February when Leicester were running away with the league, eight points clear of Leeds, 14 from Southampton and 18 ahead of Ipswich Town. Yet, just five points cover Ipswich in first to Southampton in fourth. Leicester are one point below Ipswich with a game-in-hand, and could go top with a draw in Saturday's early kick-off against West Brom.

West Brom's Brandon Thomas-Asante the favourite at 5/1 to score first - while Nakhi Wells and Tommy Conway are the best-backed for Bristol City at 9/1

The fifth-placed West Bromwich Albion faces mid-table side Bristol City at The Hawthorns today in what is arguably the game of the round in the Championship. With Carlos Corberan's side losing their 19th game of the season, the Baggies are heavily favored to articulate their 'favourites' tag and get the job done at home. Bristol City, on the other hand, defeated Swansea last time out and became 19/5 underdogs, making it two victories in a row.

The late victory over Birmingham by West Brom over crowding that marred the match with Wolves, but Blues midfielder Juninho Bacuna says he suffered racial abuse during the match

THE HAWTHORNS, TOM COLLOMOSSE: The police cars were the first thing to catch the attention. Or, rather, the lack of them. Whereas there had been about 40 people in the Sandwell Academy parking garage three hours before last weekend's match between West Bromwich Albion and Wolves, there were only two. Albion's meeting with Wolves or Aston Villa is only five miles apart, but more than that, Albion's relationship with Birmingham has no of the animosity that characterizes Albion's meetings with Wolves or Aston Villa. Fans from both teams mingled on the pavement and beside the hot dog vans around the stadium, and the Birmingham bus arrived without incident. Tony Mowbray, Albion's most beloved bosses of the modern era, was given a warm reception.
