Guido Agosti Life

Guido Agosti (11 August 1901 – 2 June 1989) was an Italian pianist and piano teacher. In 1901, Agosti was born in Forl. * He studied piano with Ferruccio Busoni, Bruno Mugellini, and Filippo Ivaldi, receiving his diploma at age 13. * At Bologna University, he investigated counterpoint under Benvenuti and literature. He began his career as a pianist in 1921. * Although he never completely dropped concert-giving, nerves made it impossible for him to appear on stage, and he concentrated on teaching. * He taught piano at the Venice Conservatoire and in Rome's Santa Cecilia Academy. * He was named Professor of piano at the Accademia Chigiana in 1947 (Siena). * He has worked at Weimar and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Maria Tipo, Yonty Solomon, Peter Bithell, Leslie Howard, Martin Jones, Barbara Amato, Matthew Brown, Martin Jones, David Levick, Kevin Smith, Daniel Pollack, Patricia Brownridge, Duncan Munro, Geneviève Calame, and Eric van Griensven. He made few recordings; his compilation of preludes by Debussy was highly praised. * Mussorgsky and Janácek were also recorded. * His piano transcription of three movements from Stravinsky's The Firebird (1928, which was dedicated to his teacher Busoni) is included in the set. * Agosti produced a C minor version of Beethoven's 32 Variations, WoO 80. He performed chamber music with the flautist Severino Gazzelloni and Enrico Mainardi, as well as with the Quartetto di Roma. Ernest Bloch's Piano Sonata was written for Agosti.Guido Agosti died in Milan in June 1989.
