Graeme John Lloyd (born 9 April 1967) is an Australian-born professional baseball pitcher who played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, and the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball.
Playing career
Lloyd played for the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Kansas City Royals of the American League and the Kansas City Royals, Florida Marlins of the National League, and the New York Mets of the National League. As of July 2012, he was the third native Australian to play in Major League Baseball so far.
During his ten years in the major leagues, Lloyd was mainly a relief pitcher, winning 30 games against 36 losses, 17 saves, and 97 holds.
Lloyd threw a sinking fastball that hit 90 miles (140 km) per hour and a slider at his high point. He added a palmball to his repertoire later in his career.
He was employed as a left-handed specialist for a large portion of his career. This pitcher is used against an opposing team's left-handed hitter(s) late in a game. Lloyd debuted his career with the New York Yankees in 1998, when he had a career-best 1.67 ERA. Because of this success, the Toronto Blue Jays ordered Lloyd to be included in a package anchored by starting pitcher David Wells when the Yankees traded for Toronto starting pitcher Roger Clemens.
Lloyd was the first Australian-born baseball player to win a World Series in 1996 when playing for the Atlanta Braves in a six-game series. Lloyd was awarded the victory in Game 4 of the series, replacing Mariano Rivera in the 9th inning and forcing left-handed batsman Fred McGriff to call a inning ending double play.
Lloyd defeated the San Diego Padres in 1998, becoming the second time World Series champion for the Yankees. Lloyd is still the only Australian-born baseball player to win a World Series.
Lloyd recovered from arthroscopic surgery and missed the entire 2000 season. In 2001, he received the Tony Conigliaro Award, a national award that was established in 1990 by the Boston Red Sox to honor a Major League Baseball (MLB) player who best "overcames an obstacle and adversity by virtue of his spirit, dedication, and courage, which were Conigliaro's trademarks.

Lloyd played for Australia at the Olympic Games in Athens, 2004.
