Early life
Zanotti was born on April 17th, 1957, in San Mauro Pascoli, Italy's Emilia Romagna region, which is just outside the seaside resort of Rimini; the town and the immediate area are known for high-end shoe-making traditions.
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar Australia in 2014, Zanotti said, "I was always obsessed with shoes." "I think the first pair I recall were my mother's." I was only seven or eight years old, and I'm recall being impressed with the toe's shape.
Zanotti converted to pursue a career in women's shoes in the 1980s. His first job was as a freelance designer, designing his way into famous fashion houses.
Career
Zanotti began to explore on his own and create a distinct style of footwear, particularly ornate with oversized crystals and stones often used in jewelry making.
He purchased the Vicini shoe factory in San Mauro Pascoli, Italy, and set about recasting the small company. He restructured his style staff and created new divisions that were specialized in making heels and ornamental jewelry.
Zanotti introduced his first Giuseppe Zanotti collection to a select group of fashion journalists and retailers in New York City in 1994. Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Barneys New York were among the first luxury stores to purchase and remain retailers of the brand today, as well as Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, among other things.
In Milan, the first Giuseppe Zanotti boutique opened in Milan in 2000, and additional stores in New York City, London, Moscow, Hong Kong, Miami, Los Angeles, and Saint Tropez followed. Giuseppe Zanotti's 100th store opened in Beijing in 2016.
Vicini Sp.A., which began as a small manufacturing company, today has five company-owned factories that specialize in all aspects of luxury shoe manufacturing and footwear manufacturing, with 650 people who help to produce over 600,000 pairs of shoes each year.
