Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon appear in several screenplays, but her best known for the film Stepmom was released in June.

Levangie is the New York Times best-selling author of seven books, including Rescue Me (2000), Maneater (2003), which was turned into a Lifetime miniseries, and The Starter Wife (2006), which was adapted for a USA Network miniseries. Its popularity spawned a regular series. Queen Takes King, her fourth book, was published in 2009 and was produced by Lifetime for a television show. Random House published The After Wife, her fifth book. In 2013, Seven Deadlies were first published. Been There, Married That was her seventh book published in 2020. She has written numerous magazine papers, some of which were included in Harper's Bazaar and Glamour.

Stepmom, her screenwriting debut, was a hit at the box office, grossing over $91,137,662 in the United States. Stepmom generated $159,710,793 worldwide from a $50 million budget; it was ranked second in the category of "motherhood"; On Dec. 25th, the stepsmom became the second largest weekend at $19,142,440, which was the 27th in 1998.

Susan Sarandon-Julia Roberts' screenplay was based on 2011 Levangie's film, Riley and Sage from his first marriage, according to Levangie's. However, the film's story is very similar to Nancey Silvers' 1995 television film The Other Woman, which later sued Stepmom for copyright violation.

Maneater, part two of Lifetime (TV Network)'s Lifetime (TV Network) series, was the network's highest-rated television show of the year among adult females. By 2.9 million viewers and an average of 2.1 among women 18 to 49, Maneater, starring Sara Chalke and based on Levangie's New York Times bestseller, was seen by 2.2 million viewers and averaged a 2.1 among women 18 to 49.
