Gethin Clifford Jones (born 12 February 1978) is a Welsh television presenter.
Jones started his rugby union career while attending Manchester Metropolitan University, and later on, he began his television appearances on Welsh language channel S4C as a host of children's shows such as Popty, Mas Draw, and the flagship children's entertainment show Uned 5 (Unit 5, 2002–05). He became the 31st host of BBC children's show Blue Peter in 2005.
Early life and education
Jones was born in Cardiff on February 12, 1978. Sylvia (née Groskop), a violinist, and Goronwy Jones, the head teacher of Baden Powell Primary School, was born on 12 February 1978. Mererid, his older sister, has died. One of his maternal great-grandfathers was a Polish-Jewish immigrant. He attended Ysgol Gynradd Coed-y-Gof and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf (in Llandaff North, Cardiff) for his primary and secondary school education, respectively, with Welsh as his first language. Jones has earned her Grade 8 violin and Grade 6 piano degrees as well as involvement in school musicals and county orchestras. He took Biology, Geography, and Economics at A-Levels.
Jones had dual aspirations at school. His mother wanted him to develop his musical abilities, but he loved rugby unions. He was captain of the university's rugby first team and competed in the Lancashire under-21 team while studying Economics and Geography at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he earned a 2:2 on the first team. Jones was offered trials by Sale RFC at the age of 21 in his last year. However, he wasn't strong enough, and he eventually gave up on a professional rugby career and returned to Wales.
Personal life
Jones became romantically involved with mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins in December 2007. They first met in 2005. Jenkins sang "Time to Say Goodbye" with Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli on an episode of Strictly Come Dancing, which was broadcast on October 21, 2007. "They're old friends and they've been on several dates," Jenkins' spokesperson said. However, people shouldn't be concerned about buying hats right now."
Jones and Jenkins announced their marriage in February 2011. However, they both announced on December 30th that they were going to separate ways on December 30, 2011.
Jones, a keen footballer (he supports Everton FC and produced a 2009 DVD titled My Everton), a tennis player and golfer. He was shortsighted and wearing contact lenses or glasses until he underwent a laser surgery to correct his shortsightedness on June 17.
Professional career
Jones spent three months as a builder laying house foundations before his television career, served as a bank clerk, a telephone hotline officer, and as a research assistant. He later appeared on Welsh channel S4C as a host of children's shows, such as Popty (the Welsh equivalent of Top of the Pops), Mas Draw (the Welsh equivalent of Top of the Pops), and Uned 5, a children's entertainment company. He learned how to fly a plane and obtained his pilot's license in 2004, as part of the show's revival.

Jones became a host of the children's television show Blue Peter on April 26, 2005. He auditioned on the same day as co-presenter Zöe Salmon. As a host, he took on action/adventure as a host; highlights included flying with the Red Arrows and in a World War II Spitfire, surviving the Bolivian jungle and being bitten by an alligator in Louisiana; John Noakes and Peter Duncan had taken on the role as a host; Peter Duncan played on a submarine escape training with the Royal Navy. Jones was the second civilian to complete the Royal Marine Commando 30-mile (48 km) Yomp in 2006, he finished in eight hours and 20 minutes. He performed the violin at the Proms with the BBC Philharmonic.
Jones and his Blue Peter co-presenters scaled the highest peaks in each constituent country of the United Kingdom on their 30th birthday on February 12, 2008, beginning with Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and Snowdon in North Wales. They scaled Scafell Pike the next day after overnight by coach to the Lake District. They were supposed to be brought by helicopter to Mount Ben Nevis but were unable to do so due to the helicopter's technical difficulties, forcing them to land in Oban. The boys were able to scale the mountain the next day. This challenge was run in aid of Sport Relief 2008.
Jones revealed on August 8th, 2008, on Blue Peter, that after three and a half years with the show, he would be leaving in June at the end of the current season. His spokeswoman said he had always intended to leave when he turned 30. "I've worked on Blue Peter that you wouldn't even imagine about," Jones said, and for that I feel fortunate and fortunate. ... I've loved it, lived it, and now I think the time is perfect to leave it."
