George Argyros was born in Detroit, Michigan, but he was raised in Pasadena, California, on February 4, 1937. Argyros, a second-generation American citizen, was born in Greece; his grandparents immigrated from Greece. Argyros graduated from Chapman University in 1959 with a major in Business and Economics. He served on Chapman University's board of trustees from 1976 to 2001, including chairman of the board from 1976 to 2001. In his honor, the Chapman University, Argyros School of Business and Economics, has been named.
Argyros and his partner, Julia, have three grown children and seven grandchildren. George Argyros Jr., his son, was born in Belmont, the United States. 2/5/1965 (d. 8/28/2020) died of a heart attack at the age of 55.
