Tom Monaghan Life

Thomas Stephen Monaghan (born March 25, 1937) is an American entrepreneur who created Domino's Pizza in 1960.

He was with the Detroit Tigers from 1983 to 1992.

Monaghan also owns the Domino's Farms Office Park, which is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he first began building in 1984. Domino's Pizza Inc is a Benedictine parish.

Monaghan sold 93% of the company to Bain Capital, Inc.

For about $1 billion, the individual ceased being interested in day-to-day operations of the company, and then devoted his time and resources to Catholic causes.

Monaghan and his partner, Marjorie Zybach, who first saw a pizza in 1962, have four children, Margaret, Susan, Mary, and Barbara.

As of 2014, they have ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Early life

Monaghan's mother had trouble raising him alone, and, when they turned six years old, they and his younger brother went back to an orphanage until their mother recovered them in 1949. The orphanage, St. Joseph Home for Children in Jackson, Michigan, was operated by the Felician Sisters of Livonia; one of the nuns inspired his adherence to the Catholic faith and later entered St. Joseph's Seminary in Grand Rapids with the intention of becoming a priest. He was suspended from the seminary after a string of academic misdeeds.

Monaghan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps by mistake in 1956; he had intended to join the Army. In 1959, he received an honorable discharge.
