Career

On the television show Family, Francis performed in the two-part episode titled "Jury Duty." Laura Spencer, a recast, appeared on GC Hospital in 1977 as she was the first woman to play the role. It would be her instant celebrity in the late 1970s. With 30 million viewers tuning in to make the episode the most rated hour in soap opera history, Luke and Laura Wed's television couple married on November 17, 1981. Francis quit the show in 1982 to try her hand at prime-time television, at the time of her fame. Bare Essence, her own film, was unsuccessful, she landed a starring role within a few days. She returned to General Hospital in 1983 for a limited run, when Luke's departure coincided with Anthony Geary's decision to leave the show. Francis was also given the lead role in the film Splash, but she turned it down because the script was silly.

With her appearance, she was reunited with former GM co-star Tristan Rogers, who portrayed Colin Atkinson, Cane's estranged biological father. In May 2012, she was given her second Daytime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Genevieve.

Francis had been suspended from her appearance on The Young and the Restless as a result of budget cuts on September 13, 2012. Frank Valentini, a commercial director, and Entertainment Weekly announced that Francis will return to General Hospital on January 8, 2013, the first time on February 11. However, Laura stayed with the series for just five months as Laura returned from France for medical care, and Anthony Geary's departure from the show would later sign a deal to remain with the show. Francis was released in January 2018 and then agreed to return to General Hospital full-time in late July 2018.

The Cherished Home, Francis owned a store. It was located at 31 Searsport Avenue in Belfast, Maine 04915, and they also sold items online. The store carried cottage furniture and home accessories. Because of her work on The Young and the Restless, Francis sold the store in August 2012. In the fall of 2012, the store was closed.

Francis began appearing in magazine advertisements in May 2007 as a Medifast Diet spokesperson, claiming she lost 30 pounds as a result of December 2007.

It's Christmas Time Again, Francis and her brothers, Ivor Jr. and Kenneth announced in November 2009. They decided to donate a part of all sales to the Sisters of Saint Francis Children's Mission in Cuernavaca, a charity established by her cousin Margaret. Francis decided to donate all of her funds/sales to this cause. Various members of her family were involved in this venture, so it was a challenge.
