Gene Harris Life

Gene Harris (born Eugene Haire, 1933-2000) was an American jazz pianist best known as soul jazz. He performed in The Three Sounds trio with bassist Andy Simpkins and drummer Bill Dowdy from 1956 to 1970. During this period, The Three Sounds performed regularly for Blue Note and Verve, although he mainly returned to Boise in the late 1970s, although he appeared at the Idanha Hotel. In the early 1980s, Ray Brown begged him to go back on tour. * He performed with the Ray Brown Trio and then led his own bands, mostly on Concord Records, until his death from kidney disease in 2000. Gene Harris is survived by his three children, Tracy Haire, Beth Haire- Lewis, and Gina Haire (Niki Haris), as well as his son Eugene Haire. "Battle Hymn of the Republic," one of his most popular numbers, is a live version of which is released by Concord on his Live at Otter Crest album.
