De Jong was born in Gorinchem and grew up in Arkel, a town in South Holland's province, where he started playing football at a young age. Since playing professionally, De Jong has selected 21 on his shirt in honor of his grandfather, who was born on April 21. In high school, he met his fiancé Mikky Kiemeny, and the pair have been dating since 2014. In July 2022, the couple announced their engagement.
Club career
Willem II, de Jong, a product of the club, was involved in the entire youth system. De Jong made his Ethnic debut against ADO Den Haag two days before his eighteenth birthday on May 10. In a (1–0) home win, Terell Ondaan was substituted in the 68th minute.
Ajax purchased De Jong at the start of the season on August 22, 2015. He signed a four-year contract for a hefty €1 fee with a 10% sell-on bonus. He was loaned back to Willem II on August 23, 2015, until December 31, 2015. He made one substitute appearance in an Economy match against PEC Zwolle during this period.
De Jong was both in and out of the first team squad for the first two years at Ajax. De Jong made 15 appearances in the 2015—16 Eerste Divisie for Ajax II, having returned to the team in January, 2016. He played in the center of a three-man midfield and scored two goals. During the 2018–19 season, De Jong achieved success and deserved praise, leading Ajax to their first domestic double (league and cup) since 2001–02 season. All season for the series, Ajax wrestled with PSV Eindhoven, and the last five weeks were at the top of the charts. Barcelona, the La Liga club, Barcelona, reported on January 23nd that de Jong had agreed to a five-year deal, commencing 1 July 2019, with an initial fee of €75 million. International career
De Jong made eight appearances for the Netherlands under-19 team, including his debut against Russia on July 7, 2015. He made six appearances and scored one goal for the Netherlands under the age of 21. In a friendly (2–1) victory over Peru on September 6, 2018, de Jong replaced Georginio Wijnaldum at halftime, his senior international debut. He played a key role in Memphis Depay's goal by retrieving possession high-up the pitch and setting up the forward. He was fifteen minutes into his debut. In the opposition half, he later scored the winner and had a 98 percent pass completion rate (21 passes).
