How wealthy Londoners, including hipsters and pop stars, have changed Margate

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 1, 2023
Margate has morphed into a gentrified hipster hangout, with newcomers including British indie rock hero and Libertines' co-frontman Pete Doherty. And the anonymous graffiti artist Banksy has made his mark on the community by spray-painting his latest artwork onto a house in the area long before the local council unceremoniously destroyed it. Lily Allen's comedy Dreamland on Sky is bringing the resort, dubbed the Shoreditch-on-Sea or the 'Camden of the south-east,' into the limelight once more. However, all the attention has arrived at a price, with residents claiming that the gentrification of the humble Kent town has pushed house prices to skyrocket as Londoners snap up second homes and Airbnb rentals begin to open en masse.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS reviews last night's TV: I couldn't wait to check out of Alex Jones's hotel

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 7, 2023
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Here's a handy 'life hack.' If someone offers you a quick, easy, time-saving way to do a chore, please disregard them. You'll save yourself a lot of money by avoiding a lot of anxiety. Ingenious ways to open cans of beans, pack suitcases, or lace your boots never work. That's because they're created by teenage influencers for TikTok videos, who insist that everything new must be better. Reunion Hotel (BBC2, and BBC1 Wales) was a prime example of the hopeless hack, the duvet sausage, an innovative way of getting yourself into a knot when attempting to turn a quilt into a cover. This is how it works: Turn the cover inside out and lay it on the mattress. Place the duvet on top. Roll them up to the open end. Slice the sausage back, give the whole thing a hefty shake, sprain your arm, yell at annoyance, and voila! You will end up with a gritty continental quilt. Marvelous.

"My Life Has Changed So Much" Lily Allen commemorates Four Years of Sobriety: "My Life Has Changed So Much."

www.popsugar.co.uk, March 29, 2023
Lily Allen is celebrating four years of sobriety after removing opioids and alcohol from the market in 2019. Allen, 37, who rose to fame as a singer with her single "Smile" in 2006, is now focusing on her acting career after appearing on Sky's "Dreamland" this month. Allen, sporting a blonde micro bob haircut, spoke to her lifestyle change on ITV's "This Morning" on March 29th to advertise the new show. "My life has changed so much in the last two years," she said. "I'm four years old and sober, and I've got a new husband and we're making new lives for ourselves in the United States, and I'm trying new things out." Allen had a publicized war on heroin and alcohol abuse, which began shortly after the birth of her second child with ex-husband Sam Cooper. When opening Miley Cyrus' "Bangerz" tour in 2014, she turned to Adderall, an amphetamine used to treat ADHD, to "lose the weight." "It was a sexually charged tour, and I had just spent the previous three years trying to get babies out." Allen said on The Recovery Podcast, "it couldn't have been less what I felt like." She outlined how her heroin use exacerbated her alcohol use, and that trying heroin was the turning point for her to get assistance.
