Fredricka Whitfield Life

Fredricka Whitfield (born May 31, 1965) is an American journalist and news anchor.

CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta hosts CNN's weekend edition of CNN Newsroom.

Early life and education

Whitfield is the daughter of American middle-distance runner and Olympian Mal Whitfield. Whitfield attended Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Maryland, graduating in 1983. In 1987, she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Howard University's School of Communications. She appeared on campus radio station WHUR while attending Howard. Whitfield was named as the year's best Alumna of 2002.

Personal life

Since 1999, Whitfield has been married to John Glenn, the photographer for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In January 2005, she gave birth to a boy and a pair of fraternal twins, daughter Nola and son Gilbert, in November 2012.

Mal Whitfield, her father, died on November 19, 2015.

Career

Whitfield spent time in Miami, NewsChannel 8 in Washington, D.C., KTVT-TV in Dallas, Connecticut, and WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina. She joined NBC News in Atlanta from 1995 to 2001 and spent time as a senior reporter for NBC Nightly News. She appeared on several news shows at NBC, including Today; she served as both a morning and afternoon anchor and an assignment reporter.

Whitfield joined CNN in 2002 and has covered many important news. She was the first anchor to break the news of Ronald Reagan's death. She has chronicled the 2004 Asian tsunami, which killed in December. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Whitfield reported from the Persian Gulf region.

Whitfield is currently the anchor of CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, and she also serves as a back-up and substitute anchor for CNN's At This Hour With Kate Bolduan.
