Frederik Magle Life

Frederik Reesen Magle (born 17 April 1977) is a Danish composer, concert organist, and pianist.

He writes about contemporary classical music as well as fusion of classical music and other genres.

His compositions include orchestral works, cantatas, chamber music, and solo performances (mainly for organ), as well as several compositions that were commissioned by the Danish Royal Family.

Magle has a reputation as an organ and performer as well as an experimental performer whose work includes: his brass quintet piece Lys p. Din vej, composed for Prince Nikolai's christening, his chamber and chorus, his symphonic suite Cantabile, and a series of improvisations for organ and orchestra titled Like a Flame.

Life

Frederik Magle was born in Stubbekbing, the son of actress and writer Mimi Heinrich and organist, painter, and sculptor Christian Reesen Magle (1925-96). Emil Reesen's great-nephew (his grandmother's brother) is his nephew. He was recognized early as a child prodigy and appeared on television and in the news media at the age of 9.

Magle was educated as a private student of Leif Thybo (composition and music theory), and Ib Bindel (organ). From the age of six, he was taught piano, score reading, and music theory. At the age of 16, he was accepted to the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he was taught music theory by Yngve Jan Trede, but he left the music academy after one and a half years, indicating that he "could not both study at the conservatory and perform as a composer at the same time." Later, he said that the decision was "difficult, and there was a lot to think about," but that he did not regret it.

In 1993, he was granted a scholarship by countess Erna Hamilton. He won the Danish qualification rounds and national final of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in 1994 as an organ soloist. He was one of eight national winners of the European final, which took place at the Philharmonic Concert Hall in Warsaw, Poland, on June 14, 1994. He appeared in Francis Poulenc's Organ Concerto, but not in the top ten, but not in the top three. The Polish officials originally intended the qualifying round to be held elsewhere, but they later transferred it to the Philharmonic Hall (which contains a pipe organ) to accommodate Magle's participation.

Magle's father died in 1996, just before Frederik Magle's first appearance. God blesses a newborn baby. In 2001, Magle was named the Freemason's Arts Prize. He purchased the classical music internet forum "Talk Classical" in 2006.

He has said that he often gets his inspirations in dreams and is always have a notebook next to him when he sleeps, in case he has an idea for a "musical word or an orchestral build-up" during the night. Among brilliant minds, this technique is often found, and it is similar to the Slumber with the Key method.
