William Jonathan Drayton Jr. (born March 16, 1959), also known as Flavor Flav (), is an American musician, singer, actor, television presenter, and comedian who rose to fame as a member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy.

Early life and education
Dr. David Morris was born in Roosevelt, New York, and grew up in nearby Freeport, two towns within the Town of Hempstead. Drayton is the cousin of former Penn State basketball player Shep Garner and the MC Timbo King of Royal Fam. He is also a cousin of rappers Ol' Dirty Bastard, RZA, and Wu-Tang Clan's GZA.
He learned piano and started playing at the age of five. He performed in the youth choir at his church and learned the piano, drums, and guitar at an early age. Dr. D. Drayton is an expert in fifteen instruments, according to Chuck D. When playing with a lighter, he set a house on fire as a small boy. He was in and out of jail for robbery and burglary by the time he dropped out of Freeport High School in the 11th grade.
In 1978, Dr. Drayton began attending culinary school. He later attended Adelphi University on Long Island, where he met Carlton Ridenhour (who later became known as Chuck D) later in life. They met first on Chuck D's hip-hop college radio show before forming a group and began rapping together. Flavor Flav, Dr. Dayton's stage name, was originally his graffiti sticker.
Personal life & legal issues

Flav pleaded guilty to assaulting Karen Ross, his then-girlfriend, in 1991, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, lost custody of his children, and delved into heroin. Flav was charged with attempted murder and sentenced to 90 days in prison for shooting at his neighbor in 1993. Flav was charged with domestic assault, cocaine, and marijuana possession later this year. His family was involved in his rescue, and he consulted into the Betty Ford Center for a heroin use. Flav's father died of diabetes complications in 1997, and Flav's father returned to re-enter therapy, this time at the Long Island Center for Recovery. In a motorcycle accident, he broke both arms.
Flavor Flav dated Beverly Johnson, and by 2000, he and her two children from a previous marriage were living in a tiny apartment in the Bronx, while earning money scalping baseball tickets. Flav spent nine weeks in Rikers Island prison for driving with a revoked license, numerous parking tickets, and lateness for probation testing dates in 2002. Flav and his mother moved to Long Island after being released from jail.
Chuck D was worried about his friend's health, and he suggested a Flav move to Los Angeles toward the end of 2003. Flav moved into his Princess' apartment, and Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin, the creators and executive producer of the reality television series The Surreal Life, met within months. As soon as they heard Flav had departed to Los Angeles, the pair sought him out. Since he had remained clean from his heroin use, they wanted to cast him. Flav refused at first, claiming that the program was for actors well beyond their prime time. By the previous participant MC Hammer, he was eventually convinced to join.
Flav was arrested on May 2, 2011 on four outstanding misdemeanor warrants for a variety of driving offences. According to police, the rapper had two outstanding arrest warrants for driving without a license, one for driving without a licence and one for parking violations. Flav has since been announced. Flav said on the Australian radio show The Kyle and Jackie O Show, that when his heroin use was at its high point, he would spend up to US$2,000 a day on crack cocaine.
Elizabeth Trujillo, the mother of Flav's son, Karma, lived with Flav in Las Vegas and was his fiancée for eight years as of October 2012. Flav was arrested in Las Vegas on felony charges stemming from a domestic brawl with Trujillo and his attempts to assault her teenage son, Gibran, with a knife on October 17, 2012.
Anna Drayton, Flav's mother, died on December 31, 2013. Flav was arrested on January 9, 2014, after driving 79 miles per hour (127 km/h) on a 55-mile-per-hour (89 km/h) zone, and was charged with possession of marijuana and unlicensed operation of a vehicle. Flav had 16 suspensions on his license, according to authorities. He was en route to his mother's funeral.
Flav was arrested near Las Vegas on May 21, 2015. Speeding and driving under the influence were two of the charges.

Career
Flavor Flav (often referred to as "Flav") came to fame as a founding member and hype man of the rap group Public Enemy, which he co-founded in 1985 with Chuck D. The group's founder and hype man, Rick Rubin, was a member of Def Jam Records' Public Enemy #1, bringing them to the attention of Def Jam Records executive Rick Rubin. Rubin initially didn't know Flav's presence in the game and wanted to sign Chuck D as a solo act; however, Chuck D insists that Flav be signed with them and the two were officially signed to Def Jam, and the two were released.

In 1987, Bum Rush the Exhibition was first introduced. Flav was viewed as Chuck D's serious, politically charged style.The group earned much more attention after its 1988 debut, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, which went double platinum. By the time the political single "Fight the Power" was released in 1989, the group had already established themselves as mainstream superstars. Flav and Chuck D., the group's showman and public, made the fans excited, went on stage and in public sporting large hats and glasses, and a large clock hanging from his neck.
On Goat Ju JU's first track, Flav rapped solo, but the first time he rapped alone would not appear until 1990's "911 Is a Joke," which was the first released track on which Flav rapped solo. Flav's first years of existence, along with groupmate Professor Griff, who never understood Flav's flamboyant leadership in what Griff considered a serious, politically challenging group. Flavor Flav's 1999 debut with DJ Tomekk and Grandmaster Flash included the single "1, 2, 3... Rhymes Galore." The single remained in the top ten of the German charts for 17 weeks.
Flav's first solo album, Flavor Flav, was released in 2006. It was first introduced during the second season of the reality television dating show Flavor of Love.
Following a fight over the group's decision to endorse Bernie Sanders and speak at his Los Angeles rally, Public Enemy released a statement on March 1, 2020. Flavor Flav" will be "going forward without Flavor Flav." Flavor Flav condemned the dismissal while still insisting that he was Chuck D's partner in Public Enemy and therefore could not be fired. Chuck Dutton, a comedian, announced that the firing was a hoax on April 1, 2020. Flavor Flav said he was not involved in the prank and disapproved of the act shortly thereafter.
Flavor Flav was invited to appear on VH1's reality show The Surreal Life, after a hiatus from the music industry. He began a friendship with actress Brigitte Nielsen on this show. Following the conclusion of The Surreal Life, VH1 brought Flav and Brigitte a show named Strange Love, which detailed their globetrotting journey in love. Brigitte wanted to return to her fiancé, Mattia Dessi, at the end of Strange Love.
Flavor of Love, which aired for three seasons, is a reality show on which Flavor Flav appears for love. I Love New York and I Love Money were two spin-offs that resulted from the show's popularity. Flav proposed to Liz, the mother of his youngest son, Karma, at his third season reunion of Flavor of Love.
Flavor Flav's Comedy Central roast aired on August 12, 2007. Snoop Dogg, Brigitte Nielsen, Jimmy Kimmel, Carrot Top, Lisa Lampanelli, Ice-T, Jeff Ross, Katt Williams, Patton Oswalt, Greg Giraldo, and Sommore were among the gastronomic guests at the roast.

Flav's Fried Chicken was born in 2011 in Cimino, Iowa, where they met with Nick Cimino. Both men had met in Las Vegas and Castle Rock Bar and Pizzeria in Kingman, Arizona, through Cimino's brother Peter, who runs Mama Cimino's. Peter Cimino began selling chicken wings using Flav's recipe after enjoying the rapper's made fried chicken. The founders aspired to start a national restaurant chain. Flavor Flav's Chicken shutting down just four months after it was announced, thanks to a combination of squabble owners, bounced checks, and poor corporate decisions. Flavor Flav was not involved in the restaurant's day-to-day activities; Nick Cimino simply paid for Flavor Flav's license.
Flavor Flavor's House of Flavor in Las Vegas opened on the rapper's birthday in March 2012. Flavor Flav's Chicken & Ribs, a nationwide chain that began in Sterling Heights, Michigan, was founded by Flavor Flav Flav, Geno Harmon and Salvatore Bitonti. Flavor Flav has had no involvement in the restaurant industry in the previous two ventures. Flavor Flavor Flav's Chicken & Ribs was a casual dining experience with a quick serve attitude. Flavor Flav's Chicken & Ribs closed in July 2013 after being evicted by its landlord for failure to pay rent.
Flav appeared in Taking Back Sunday's music video for their single You're So Last Summer in 2002. Flav has played a role in the 2004 war game; Def Jam: Fight for New York. Flav appeared on Channel 5's UK reality television show The Farm in May 2005. Flavor Flav appeared in the MTV2 surreal black comedy show Wonder Showdown as himself in the first episode "Birth" in 2005. Flav appeared on ABC's Celebrity Wife Swap on January 10, 2012. Suzette, the wife of Twisted Sister front-man Dee Snider, exchanged places with his fiancée. During Super Bowl XLVI, Flav and Elton John appeared alongside Elton John in a Pepsi Co. commercial. Flav stood as an honorary member of the UNLV Rebellion during the UNLV Runnin' Rebels' victory over San Diego State, 65-63.
