Eve Myles (born 26 July 1978) is a Welsh actress from Ystradgynlais.

She graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2000.

She began playing Ceri Lewis in the BBC drama series Belonging, a role she would reprise later this year.

Myles' early television appearances included Tales from Pleasure Beach in 2001 and Colditz, a 2003 television drama.

She auditioned for a part of Doctor Who's revival in 2005, and she landed the role of servant girl Gwyneth in the Series 1 episode "The Unquiet Dead," alongside Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston. Her appearance in Doctor Who resulted in her landing a lead role in Torchwood's science fiction drama, in which she portrayed Gwen Cooper for four series from 2006 to 2011.

In 2007, Myles' appearance in Torchwood earned her a Bafta Cymru award for Best Actress.

In an ongoing series of Big Finish Productions stories, Myles revisited Gwen's role in the 2010 and 2011 series of Torchwood Radio Plays and then again in 2015.

Myles' subsequent television appearances include the 2008 miniseries Little Dorrit, the 2008 premiere episode of the fantasy drama Merlin, and the 2013 drama film Frankie, in which she appeared in the lead role. She appeared alongside Anthony Head in the comedy comedy You, Me & Them in 2013, a role she reprised in 2015 for the second series.

Myles was born in Ystradgynlais on July 26, 1978. Her father is Scottish. She attended Ysgol Maes Y Dderwen, where she learned only basic Welsh words. She grew up with a strong interest in boxing, but she gave up the sport after breaking her knuckle by punching a wet sandbag. Myles earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting at Cardiff's Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2000. Then she migrated to London.

Personal life

In 1994, Myles met Bradley Freegard at the National Youth Theatre, and they married in Italy on May 18, 2013. Myles and Freegard have three children, born in 2009, 2014, and 2021. She now speaks Welsh with her children after learning Welsh for Keeping Faith with the support of her husband.

Myles and her family migrated with their family to Hollywood Hills, California, living "literally below the Hollywood sign." Myles has referred to California as the "land of dreams" and her time with Torchwood in Hollywood as the best year of her life, adding that she would like to spend more time there as an actress if possible.

Ceri Owen (née Lewis) played the central role in the BBC Wales drama Belonging in 2000. Myles played Ceri from the series's first episode to its final series in 2008, reprising for a one-off special in 2009. Myles appeared in the television film Score and the TV miniseries Tales from Pleasure Beach in 2001. Myles based herself in Stratford upon Avon from 2003, first appearing in Lavinia in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Titus Andronicus, for which she received the Sunday Times Ian Charleson award in 2004. She has appeared in The Taming of The Shrew and in 2005, she appeared opposite Michael Gambon in Henry IV, Part I and II at the National Theatre, and in 2005 she appeared in Bianca. In November 2004, she appeared on Gwenfar as part of Sebastian Baczkiewicz and Steve May's "Arthur" on BBC Radio Four. In 2005, Myles appeared in the ITV drama Colditz.

She appeared in the Doctor Who episode "The Unquiet Dead" playing servant girl Gwyneth. Russell T Davies, a lead writer who went on to write and produce Torchwood, was attracted by her curiosity. Davies, considering that she is "one of Wales' best-kept secrets," wrote about Gwen Cooper in Torchwood specifically for Myles. Myles said that writing the role for her was like having her "own personal Oscar." Myles appeared in "The Dragon's Call" on Episode 1 of Merlin, where she played Lady Helen of Mora and Mary Collins, a witch who impersonated her. Myles revealed in July 2010 that she would be included in an original BBC Cymru Wales TV series called Baker Boys, co-written by Helen Raynor and Gary Owen and airing in early 2011.
