Kristen Joy Schaal (born January 24, 1978) is an American actor, singer, comedian, and writer.

Louise Belcher on Bob's Burgers and Mabel Pines on Gravity Falls, as well as playing Mel on Flight of the Conchords, Hurshe Heartshe, and Carol Pilbasian on The Last Man on Earth, she is best known for her appearances as Louise Belcher, Robert Belcher, Missa's Mother. Sarah Lynn is one of many voices for BoJack Horseman, most notable for her role as Sarah Lynn, for whom she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Achievement.

Early life

Schaal was born in Longmont, Colorado, to a Lutheran family of Dutch ancestry. She grew up in a rural area near Boulder, Colorado, on her family's cattle ranch. Her father is a building worker and her mother is a secretary.

Schaal attended Skyline High School, where she graduated in 1996. She has a brother, David, who is three years old. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for a year and graduated from Northwestern University. In 2000, she moved to New York to pursue a comedy career. When she first appeared in the New York newspaper "The Ten Funniest New Yorkers You've Never Heard Of," she had her first break.

Personal life

Schaal has been married to Rich Blomquist since 2012. Schaal revealed on Instagram on February 11, 2018, that she had given birth to Ruby, a daughter.

Schaal revealed she had experienced an ectopic pregnancy and a ruptured fallopian tube during an unspecified recording session for Gravity Falls in 2017, losing at least two litres of blood, and she underwent emergency surgery after being rushed to the hospital.

Schaal appeared at the 2006 HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, where she received the award for "Best Alternative Comedian" in 2006. She received the second annual Andy Kaufman Award (hosted by the New York Comedy Festival), Best Female Stand-up at the 2006 Nightlife Awards in New York City, and "Best Female Stand Up Comedian" at the 2007 ECNY Awards. Kristen Schaal's As You Never Seen Her Before at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, she received the Barry Award for her performance Kristen Schaal's As You Have Probably Never Seen Her Before, tying with Nina Conti. Schaal appeared on the first season of Comedy Central's Live at Gotham in 2006. According to a Time-Out New York's readers poll, she co-hosts the weekly variety show Hot Tub in Los Angeles, which was named "Best Variety Show of 2005" by a Time-Out New York columnist. She appears on "Big Black Car" at the Peoples Improv Theater. She is a founding member of The Striking Viking Story Pirates, which converts children's tales into sketches and songs.
