Evan Cole (born January 1, 1961) is the American entrepreneur Survivor and CEO of H.D. Buttercup, a home furnishings and interiors store with five California locations in Los Angeles (Culver City, Santa Monica, and Downtown Arts District, Orange County), and San Francisco (SOMA).

Cole was born and raised in Queens, New York, and he attended Boston University when he was 16 years old.


Evan Cole Career


Cole's entrepreneurial journey began when he obtained the first-ever licenses to sell IBM personal computers and the franchise brand VAR One Hour Photos. Before entering the home furnishings industry, he operated the Holiday Spirit, a seasonal holiday store.

Cole began working at the ABC Carpet Store in New York in 1982 on 19th and Broadway. He expanded the product line by adding an eclectic mix of rugs, antiques, linens, bodums, furniture, lighting, and accessories from his travels around the world. He founded ABC Home in 1985 and opened their first restaurant in 1997. Cole introduced the home as fashion by combining unexpected pieces together, comparing a variety of decorating styles, and multi-layering. He created a mix and match fashion style that had never been achieved with furniture. Cole was named NRF (National Retail Federation) Retailer of the Year in 1994.

Cole, as the company's Chief Executive, was charged with the company's annual revenue growth from $3 million in 1982 to $170 million in 2004, when he left the firm.

Evan launched the first H.D. in 2005. In Los Angeles, Buttercup is located in the historic Helms Bakery complex. The open layout store is powered by solar electricity, redbrick walls, and 30-foot exposed beams. In addition to in-house lines, the space houses showrooms of top designers, including Timothy Oulton, Andrew Martin, Stark Carpet, Lillian August, and Cisco Brothers, make it a popular destination for interior designers.

Evan Cole created a 500 square foot H.D. in 2010. In San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood (South of Market, San Francisco) shop.

H.D. became a member of the Royal Society of H.D. in 2014. Buttercup's Costa Mesa shop opened at the SOCO design center in Orange County.

H.D. was born in 2015 in the United States. Buttercup opened a 25,000 square feet store in Santa Monica at the former Fred Segal store and a new 30,000 square feet worldwide headquarters and corporate store in Downtown LA's Arts District, which features a completely new urban style.

Cole is a full-time real estate investor. He paid $4.8 million for a 2,500 sq ft (230 m2) in 2007. 15 Central Park West is a building. He bought it on the market for $9 million in 2011. In the December 2008 issue, Conde Nast Portfolio Magazine named Cole as the Personal Finance Champion.
