Borussia Dortmund 7-1 Celtic PLAYER RATINGS: Defence all at sea, midfield missing in action, and attacking edge blunted on sobering night in Germany

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 2, 2024
After opening their Champions League campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava, Celtic headed to Dortmund brimming with confidence that they could secure a positive result. Instead, they fell flat on their face in what was a dismal evening for Brendan Rodgers' men at the home of the Bundesliga giants. Daizen Maeda cancelled out Emre Can's early penalty to give the Celtic faithful something to cheer about, but their joy was shortlived as the hosts soon rattled home four goals without reply in a devastating first-half rout.

Borussia Dortmund 7-1 Celtic: A different level of ineptitude that showed Rodgers is wildly off the mark

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 2, 2024
For long enough, Celtic's defensive record on the road in the Champions League has made the prospect of picking up points feel about as likely as winning the lottery without first buying a ticket. Brendan Rodgers' men conceded 10 times in three away games in their group last year, one more than they shipped on the road under Ange Postecoglou the previous season. Each time you venture into these highly intimidating arenas, you've got a mountain to climb. Give your opponent three goals of a start and you're starting the ascent with your laces tied together and a blindfold on.

McGregor admits sorry Celtic have a lot to learn following Champions League demolition in Dortmund

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 1, 2024
Callum McGregor last night admitted Celtic have a lot to think about after suffering another European hammering on the road at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. It was the third time they have lost seven goals in the Champions League under Brendan Rodgers, following heavy defeats to Barcelona and PSG during his first spell in charge. Last season, Rodgers also presided over a 6-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid. Behind after seven minutes in Germany last night when Emre Can converted a penalty, the visitors drew level when Daizen Maeda bundled home Arne Engels' cross two minutes later.
