Elyse Marie Sewell (born June 10, 1982) is an American fashion model.
She is best known for her appearance as a contestant in the first cycle of the reality television series America's Next Top Model. She was named one of Wired Magazine's 2005's 10 Sexiest Geeks.
Early life
Sewell was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a father of British descent and a Mexican mother. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of New Mexico. She also worked as a research assistant in an evolutionary biology lab.
Career
Sewell's modeling debut came with her appearance on America's Next Top Model's first cycle. "The pre-med student" was on the show. Adrianne Curry and Shannon Stewart were the last to be disqualified, after Adrianne Curry and Shannon Stewart.
One of her "confessional" clips from the show in 2005, in which she blasted the people on the show, earned her her 16th position on E! Here are the Most Outrageous TV Moments. This outburst is attributed to the show's unusual invitation to display one's innermost thoughts and soliloquize in a "confessional booth," she explains.
She said she would return to medical school if she did not win the competition while on the show, if she did not win.
Although Sewell did not win the competition, she did have a fruitful modeling career in East Asia, mainly in Hong Kong. Sewell has been featured in print advertisements for Chanel and Chow Sang Jewelry, as well as on Harper's Bazaar Hong Kong and in editorials for Hong Kong Esquire and Cosmopolitan. Despite Tyra Banks' hopes that Sewell would learn that modeling was not as straightforward as it was often imagined, Sewell continued to insist that it was the "ethical occupation in the world."
Sewell began a LiveJournal blog in 2004 about her experience with modeling in other countries. In Beijing, she published Beauty and The Biz: The International Adventures of America's Third-to-Next Top Model, which is based on her (now defunct) blog. She appeared at several book signings around Hong Kong. Her other writing credits include a satirical piece for Bust Magazine on how to be a reality TV star, as well as blog entries on the website Lemondrop.
Sewell claimed that she was leaving Hong Kong and returning to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in a blog post on June 5, 2009.
