Elton Brand Life

Elton Brand (born March 11, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player and the current general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He was selected with the first overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1999 NBA draft, and later appeared for the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks.

In 2006, he was a two-time NBA All Star and an All-NBA Second Team pick.

Personal life

In the spring of 2000, the Elton Brand Foundation was founded. His foundation is a charity that helps worthy causes in Chicago, Illinois; Peekskill, New York; and Durham, North Carolina.

Elton married Shahara Simmons, a long-time friend and fellow Duke student, in North Carolina in the summer of 2006. Brand played for Team USA in the 2006 FIBA World Basketball Championships, averaging 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

In the film Just Wright, the brand made a cameo appearance. Brand is a founding member and president of Gibraltar Films, a film production, manufacturing, and distribution of motion pictures. Elton Brand Career

High school career

Brand attended Peekskill High School, where he was adamantly recruited to the varsity basketball team right away. He averaged 40 points and 20 rebounds per game, competed AAU basketball with future NBA stars Lamar Odom and Ron Artest, and by his senior year, he was consistently ranked as one of the top high school basketball players in the country, winning the title as New York State Mr. Basketball. He became a cult hero in Peekskill while also helping his team win two state championships. Brand, who had been recruited heavily after his successful high school career, wanted to attend Duke University with a group of other high school students, including Shane Battier.

College career

Brand, as a sophomore, was the most prominent inside presence for a Duke squad that is widely regarded as one of the most talented squads in recent NCAA history. Brandon is the year's best player after leading the Blue Devils to the championship game of the Final Four—where they were upset by the Connecticut Huskies. He subsequently decided to leave Duke after his sophomore season and announced for the 1999 NBA draft. William Avery, a freshman, and freshman Corey Maggette were the first three players under Mike Krzyzewski to leave early for the draft and not play for the full four years at Duke.

Professional career

Brand was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the first overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft on June 30, 1999. In his ninth game of his career, Brand scored 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots, losing 103-95 to the Los Angeles Lakers on November 19. He was later named the Rookie Challenge's Most Valuable Player of the Rookie Challenge after All-Star Weekend. He finished the season with averages of 20.1 points and ten rebounds per game, and with Houston Rockets guard Steve Francis, he earned NBA Rookie of the Year awards. Despite his personal glory, Brand and the Bulls posted their second lowest record in the league at 17-65.

Brand was praised as the linchpin of a potential new Chicago dynasty through a large portion of the 2000-2001 season. In an 86-75 victory over the New Jersey Nets, Brand scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Brand averaged 20.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game; his 3.9 offensive rebounds per game were the second-best in the NBA; The Bulls then faltered again, ending with a much worse record at 15-67.

After two fruitful seasons with the Bulls, Brand was sold to the Los Angeles Clippers in June 2001 for Brian Skinner and Tyson Chandler's draft rights. Brand became the first Clipper since Danny Manning (in 1994) to be selected to the All-Star team in 2002.

The Miami Heat made an offer worth $82 million over six years when Brand became a restricted free agent in 2003. In what was a monumental move by team owner Donald Sterling, the Clippers matched Miami's bid and managed to keep Brand a Clipper intact. Eric Piatkowski's longest contract before this was a five-year, $15 million contract prior to this. When he was able to refuse a contract extension one year ahead of time, he had also refused to offer Brand a contract extension.

Brand had a professional revival in the 2006 NBA season. While leading the Clippers to a 47–35 record, their second-best record in team history, and good enough for the sixth seed in the Western Conference, he set career highs in points per game (24.7) and field-goal percentage (52.7). Brand was chosen for the 2006 NBA All-Star Game and regarded as a strong candidate for the 2006 NBA MVP. The brand led the franchise to its first playoff series victory since 1976, when the team was called the Buffalo Braves. Despite losing in Game 7 of the second round of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Phoenix Suns, the Clippers had their best season that their franchise had ever seen at that time. Since being selected the 2005–06 NBA Sportsmanship Award champion, the brand received the Joe Dumars Trophy.

Brand regressed a bit in the following season after his excellent 2005–06 season. His scoring average in 2006–07 dropped, and the Clippers missed the playoffs.

Due to a fractured left Achilles' tendon, he missed the bulk of the 2007–08 season. However, Brand made his return to the Clippers' lineup on April 2, 2008 after being out since the start of the previous season. In his return, he scored 19 points. That season, the brand appeared in only eight games. Later that year, the brand decided to leave his job and became a free agent. According to reports, the brand decided to opt out of his employment in order to give Clippers with more payroll flexibility in the hopes of expanding their roster. When the Clippers landed Baron Davis of Golden State Warriors, it came to an end. This gave Clippers' leadership and the public the reassurance that Brand will indeed re-sign with the firm.

Brand announced that it had agreed to a five-year, $82 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on July 9, 2008. Brand wanted to return to the East Coast, and it selected Philadelphia as the closest suitor to his hometown, Peekskill, New York.

Brand will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery for the injury he sustained on December 17, 2008. Brand dislocated his shoulder during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday when attempting to recover after being knocked to the ground while going for a rebound. Brand had been coming off of the bench to be able to return to action, but after over a month on the bench and just six games back, where his production was extremely poor, the decision was made to proceed with the surgery was made. On February 9, the surgery was carried out safely.

In a 100-98 win over the New York Knicks, Brand scored a career-high 33 points in his career. During the 2011-2012 season, he played for 11 points per game and just over 8 rebounds per game. In 2012 NBA Playoffs games, he averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in a total of 13 games. The Sixers lost in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Boston Celtics 85-75.

Brand was retrieved from the 76ers by the amnesty clause on July 11, 2012.

Brand was deemed off waivers by the Dallas Mavericks on July 13, 2012, winning bid of $2.1 million. In the final year of his deal, the 76ers also had to pay out the remaining balance of the $18.2 million owed to Brand this season.

In 2012–13, he averaged 7.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.0 assists in 21.2 minutes per game. He played 72 games and started 18 of them. For the first time since the 1999–2000 season, the Mavericks lost the playoffs for the first time since the 1999–2000 season.

Brand signed with the Atlanta Hawks on July 15, 2013. He re-signed with the Hawks on September 23, 2014, reducing his long-time jersey number from 42 to 7. Brand announced his retirement from professional basketball on August 11, 2015.

Brand came out of retirement to re-enter the NBA on January 4, 2016, citing Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski who aided him in convincing him to return to action. He signed with the Philadelphia 76ers later that day, marking his second appearance with the team. He was activated for the first time on January 26, but he did not play for the 76ers against the Phoenix Suns. He made his season debut for the 76ers on March 4, 2015, playing in an NBA game for the first time since May 20, 2015. In a 112–102 loss to the Miami Heat, he had eight points and four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench. He had a 10-point game against the Detroit Pistons on March 12, scoring in double digits for the first time since April 14, 2014. In a loss to the Golden State Warriors on March 27, he played his second 10-point game in his second game. In a loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, he scored seven points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, becoming the 51st NBA player to reach 9,000 points in career history.

Brand re-signed with the 76ers on September 7, 2016. However, on October 20, 2016, he announced his second resignation.

Post-playing career

Brand was named as the Philadelphia 76ers' player growth specialist on December 6, 2016. He was named general manager of the Delaware 87ers (now Delaware Blue Coats) on August 28, 2017.

Brand was promoted to general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers on September 20, 2018. In 2020, he continued his employment.

Last chance saloon for NBA rings: Harden, Paul and Westbrook to make one last shot at a championship

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2022
No achievement is held in the NBA with a higher regard than the championship ring. No matter how well-decorated with individual awards, a celebrity's legacy is seen as incomplete without it. Allen Iverson, four-time scoring champion, all-time assists and robs leader John Stockton, and two-time regular season MVP Karl Malone all laughed at the prospect of being in the Hall of Fame, but no one would win a ring.
