Burns runs a quilting studio at her Bear's Paw Ranch in Julian, California, a mountain town in San Diego County.

Career

Burns started stitching on Aunt Edna's feed sacks. Make a Quilt in a Day, Kerry's first book, Log Cabin Pattern, was self-published in 1978. People have credited the book with starting a quilting revolution after people discovered Burns' method of stitching a quilt.

She has since written more than 100 books on quilting. In addition, Burns has written many patterns and created a line of quilted specialty rulers. The Quilt in a Day TV series, which premiered in 1990, was based on Burns' book Make a Quilt in a Day.

Burns was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame in 2012.
