Early life and career

Born Gerald Harrison in York, Gee, Gee, left school at 15 and attended art college. At York Minster, he took up stained glass. He performed in the Dare Devils, later 'Gerry B and the Hornets,' and then 'Gerry B and the Rockafellas.' Gee became a compere and then a comedian as the group disbanded. Gee was outright gay.

Gee's television break came after 20 years in showbusiness, with the introduction of Who Do You Do You Do?, an ITV show that gave young entertainers and impressionists the opportunity to perform. Gee was a visitor on Russ Abbot's Madhouse from April 1980 to July 1985. Les Dennis was one of the cast members of 1982, and Gee and Dennis formed a double act with their appearances of Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth and Mavis Riley (played by Les Dennis).

Tommy Cooper died of a major heart attack whilst on ITV's Live From Her Majesty's, Gee and Dennis were the act that was billed to follow him on April 15, 1984. Onstage, they appeared when backstage, attempted to revive Cooper.

Gee and Dennis' first television comedy show, The Laughter Show, debuted on April 7th, 1984 (renamed Les & Dustin's Laughter Show for the third series). On Saturday, the first episode of a third series was broadcast, but two weeks after Gee died, the second episode of a third series was postponed. The majority of the series was cancelled, but Gee's family's request was revived in the summer of 1986.
