Drake Doremus (born March 29, 1983) is an American film producer, screenwriter, and producer best known for directing the films Like Crazy (2011), which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Douchebag (2010), which was in Dramatic competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and Equals (2015).

Career

Doremus studied film at AFI Conservatory, being the youngest fellow to be accepted into the academy. Cherie Kerr, Doremus' mother, was a founding member of the legendary Los Angeles. The Groundlings. Doremus grew up on Kerr's stage, appearing with the Orange County Crazies as an improv comedy performer from the age of six. He continued to produce and direct for the company, as well as his own original creations. Doremus was introduced to producer Jonathan Schwartz, who would produce his next four films at the request of a talent agent in 2008.

Like Crazy, his 2011 film About Crazy, has been loosely influenced by his true life experiences. Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence appear on the programme. The bulk of the film was improvised, with only a 50-page outline as a script. The film was shot on a month with just a $250,000 budget and received the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Doremus produced The Beauty Inside, a six-part social film for Intel and Toshiba in 2012. It was written by Richard Greenberg, and actors Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Topher Grace appear in the film. Outstanding New Approaches - Original Daytime Program or Series - earned him a Daytime Emmy for his Outstanding New Approaches - Outstanding New Approaches - The series earned him a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches. Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Amy Ryan, and Mackenzie Davis premiered the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June 2013. Doremus directed Equals, a 2015 science-fiction romantic drama film directed by Nathan Parker based on a Doremus story starring Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Guy Pearce, and Jacki Weaver.

Doremus directed and produced the romantic drama Newness, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017. Doremus with Nicholas Hoult, who appeared in his previous film Equals, reunites the film. Laia Costa appears in the film as well. With Zoe, written by Richard Greenberg and published by Amazon Studios on July 20, 2018, he delves into science-fiction romance. It stars Léa Seydoux, Ewan McGregor, Theo James, Rashida Jones, Matthew Gray Gubler, Miranda Otto, and Christina Aguilera. Hugo Boss' "The Scent Private Accord" perfume, starring Jamie Dornan, was directed by Doremus.

Doremus has worked with Ben York Jones, co-wrote Like Crazy and Breathe In with Doremus, and wrote Newness. Douchebag and Newness was produced by York Jones, and he appeared in Spooner, Douchebag, Like Crazy, and The Beauty Inside. In addition, he was given special praise for Equals.

Doremus has announced that it would partner with Amazon to co-execute produce and direct a television series based on Jardine Libaire's book White Fur. Aurora, produced by CJ Entertainment, Doremus is expected to be another romantic drama. Doremus also announced that it had signed a two-year deal with Paramount Television to create new projects and monitor existing ones.
