Douglas William Bradley (born 7 September 1954) is an English actor best known for his role as the lead Cenobite "Pinhead" in the Hellraiser film series.
Early life
Bradley was born in Liverpool and attended Quarry Bank High School.
Personal life
Bradley is a long-time close friend of novelist Clive Barker, whom the two met when they were in secondary school. He has worked with Barker since the 1970s, most notable Hellraiser, which is based on Barker's bookla The Hellbound Heart. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is married to Steph Sciullo.
Career
Bradley is best known for his appearances in the first eight Hellraiser films, as well as Captain Elliot Spencer in two of the films, Hellraiser II (1988) and Hellraiser III (1992). He was one of only six actors to play the same horror role six times, the others being Christopher Lee (who played Count Dracula), Robert Englund (who portrayed Freddy Krueger), Warwick Davis (who portrayed Chucky), and Tobin Bell (who portrayed John Kramer/"Jigsaw"). He has appeared in some of Hellraiser films as an assistant make-up artist named Bill Bradley, owing to his later success at the application and removing of the Pinhead appliances and costume.
In an advertisement for Direct Line insurance in the United Kingdom, Bradley appeared as a gym instructor. He has given narrations on several songs by Cradle of Filth, an English extreme metal band. The first was "Her Ghost in the Fog," as well as "Death Magick for Adepts" and "Tortured Soul Asylum" from the album Midian. However, he was unable to be in the music video and was replaced by actor David McEwen.
Bradley appeared on "Swansong for a Raven" and "Satyriasis" from the band's 2004 album, Nymphetamine. He lent his narrations to "Recese of the Pentagram" and "Tonight in Flames" from the album Thornography in 2006. Bradley has contributed guest vocals to Cradle of Filth's 2008 release "Hell in the Dark Age" except for "Tragic Kingdom." Bradley was seen in Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes and 2009 saw Bradley return to Clive Barker's cinematic universe via a featured appearance in Book of Blood, following his appearances in the Hellraiser films and the 1990 horror film Nightbreed. In the 2008 black comedy thriller The Cottage, he appeared as a guest star. In the British film noir Jack Falls, he played the Doctor. Bradley was confirmed in June 2011 that he would be a voice-over for Lucifer's Unholy Desire, as well as acting in the film The Reverend.
