Don Roos Career

Life and career

Roos was born in Upstate New York to a conservative Roman Catholic family of mainly Irish descent. He attended the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. After graduating, the Roos went to Los Angeles, where he pursued a television screenwriting career.

Roos boosted himself by being a word processor, and he still believes it to be a fallback project. Roos started his writing career when he knew he had a friend who wanted him to represent him on a phone call; a phone call led to a career with playwright Mart Crowley (The Boys in the Band), who at the time was an executive producer of Hart to Hart. Roos worked on The Colbys, Nightingales, and other television shows before his spec scripts led to feature film writing assignments. His first big film, Love Field, a 1992 Academy Award-nominated love story starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Dennis Haysbert, was his first major film.

Since the film's psychopathic lead character assumes her roommate's name, Roos' work as the writer of Single White Female has earned him a permanent place in Hollywood movie trivia.

Roos is best known for his writing strong and entertaining female characters, which has also been useful in his film direction, resulting in Independent Spirit Award nominations for actors Lisa Kudrow, Christina Ricci, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. For The Opposite of Sex, Roos himself has been named the Best First Feature Independent Spirit Award. Roos has polished or written the screenplay to several high-profile studio films, often as an uncredited script doctor.

Eliza and Jonah are his husband's two children, actor, writer, and film director Dan Bucatinsky.

Christina Ricci regrets the fact that she was photographed on Rolling Stone's front cover at 19: 'Not great'

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 12, 2023
Christina Ricci, a two-time Emmy nominee, regrets posing in pink lingerie at age 19 for Rolling Stone's 'Nice & Naughty' cover in 1999 after appearing in San Francisco Gallo's Buffalo '66 and Don Roos' The Opposite of Sex. 'It's not how I would have liked to be dressed,' but it's not how it's been done for a long time.' The 43-year-old former child actor admitted to the same magazine last Wednesday that it was not good.' When I was growing up, the second you looked like a teenager was the one you wanted to leave.' I was extremely lucky because [I] coincided with independent films aiming to cast real teenagers to play teens.'
