Doina Ciobanu Career

Professional career

Ciobanu started The Golden Diamonds in 2010 while living in Moldova, where she turned down a university scholarship at the Sorbonne in Paris to pursue a full-time fashion career.

After being scouted and confirmed by Kate Moss' former as a digital influencer in the same year, she became the first Moldovan to do so and the first digital influencer to be signed by Next Model Management in London in 2014. She went beyond the Golden Diamonds to London, appearing as a reporter and writer for publications including Byrdie, CR Fashion Book, Elle, and The Guardian, as well as public speaking at events such as the WGSN Futures Awards, the UN Circular Fashion Summit, and the World Summit. Her combination of online presence and that of a social-event presence in London soon earned her dubbed as a member of "the super blogger community" and a "mega blogger."

Elle named her both as one of Romania's top 19 Young Entrepreneurs and one of the top 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs of Romania, twice as one of Romania's most influential fashion icons, and twice as the "Best Personal Style" category.

Ciobanu's leadership teams switched to modeling on a larger scale as of 2015. She then fronted campaigns for luxury brands, including Agent Prosogono, Burberry, Burberry, Cartier, De Grisogono, Dior, Ermenegildo Zegna, Fendi, La Perla, and Versace, and was featured in publications by both photographers Ellen von Unwerth and Rankin.

Her style and, possibly, her modeling work have appeared on Elle magazine's front page, as well as in publications such as Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, Jane, Tatler, The Telegraph, and Vogue international editions. Ciobanu has also attracted the attention of men's media, being named among the best women of the week's most popular bloggers by GQ Mexico and being named one of their "most popular Women of the Week" and attending their social functions.

Ciobanu has used her platforms to lobby for the fashion industry to become more sustainable since 2017, having started to recognize "moral obligations" that came with working as an influencer given her personal environmental convictions were often in contradiction with many consumption habits fueled by social media. She has received ambassadorships for Eco-Age, the No More Plastic foundation, and the United Nations Development Programme, to which she then went on to study Business Sustainability Management at the University of Cambridge's Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Ciobanu's campaign for a thriving fashion industry has resulted in her being chosen as a judge for both Positive Luxury and The Sustainables Award, outside of sustainability-focused speaking engagements. Marina Raphael and Monica Vinader have also worked as an advisor and designer for a variety of fashion companies, including Marina Raphael and Monica Vinader. Ciobanu's three eponymous 'Doina' collections for the latter date, with a focus on using 100 percent recycled materials, including silver and gold alongside sustainably sourced pearls. Ciobanu designed a sustainable collection of handbags for Marina Raphael this year, using a particular of vegan leather that had been created as a byproduct of apple processing.
