Dmitry Glukhovsky Life

Dmitry Alexeevich Glukhovsky (born 12 June 1979) is a Russian writer and journalist best known for the science fiction book Metro 2033 and its sequels. Dmitry Glukhovsky, a journalist, has worked for EuroNews, RT, and other publications.

Personal life and activism

Dmitry Glukhovsky was born and raised in Moscow. While his Russian mother Larisa worked as a photo editor for Tass magazine, his Jewish father Alexei worked as an editor for Gosteleradio, a USSR company that handled television and radio broadcasting, he served as an editor. He graduated from a school in Arbat District and, having already decided to become a writer, conceived the concept for the post-apocalyptic book Metro 2033 at the age of 15. He left Russia to study in Israel and stayed there for four and a half years. He learned Hebrew and obtained a university degree in Journalism and International Relations at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem while living in Israel, and was a member of Hebrew University. He completed his degree in Hebrew, but not in a manner that could not be understood by native-language Israeli students who were five years older than him. "Not that I started feeling myself as a Jew, but I certainly began feeling an Israeli," he said when talking about the experience.

Elena Glukhovskaya, the writer's wife, was married to writer Elena Glukhovskaya, whom he met while working at Russia Today. The couple have two children. On VDud, Glukhovsky revealed that he and Elena divorced earlier this year.

In 2021, Glukhovsky praised detained Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny and demanded his freedom in a video on YouTube. Glukhovsky has extended his love to Ukraine in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including a public statement broadcast on Arte. Glukhovsky revealed on June 7th, 2022, he was on the Russian federal wanted list; on his Telegram channel, he was accused of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces as a result of a post he made on Instagram. Since a Moscow district court ordered Glukhovsky's detention in absentia, he faces up to ten or fifteen years in prison. On May 13, the arrest in absentia was announced. Glukhovsky was added to the justice ministry's list of "foreign agents" in October.

Glukhovsky started writing Metro 2033 as his first book at the age of 18, and then published it on his website in 2002 as an interactive experiment. The book and its sequels were first published in print form in 2005, and there's since branched out into a multimedia collection, with a video game series.

He worked at the international media company Euronews in Lyon, France, from 2002 to 2007, after which he returned to Russia and restarted his work at the newly established Russia Today (RT). He travelled halfway around the world in three years, including the North Pole, where he made the world's first direct telecast in July 2007. He has also worked with Deutsche Welle and the British television company Sky News. He worked at Radio Mayak from 2007 to 2009. He covered the 2006 Lebanon War as a war correspondent, writing under mortar shelling.
