Diane Venora (born August 10, 1952) is an American stage, television, and film actress. Venora graduated from Juilliard School in 1977 and made her film debut in 1981 against Albert Finney in Wolfen.
For her role in Clint Eastwood's 1988 film Bird, she received the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Early life
Venora was born in East Hartford, Connecticut, one of six children of Marie (née Brooks) and Robert P. Venora, who operated a dry-cleaning company. She graduated from East Hartford High School (class of 1970), where she was active in musicals and plays. She studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music and two years later, she gained a scholarship to Juilliard School in New York City, where she graduated in 1977. She was a member of Group 6 (1973–1977) at Juilliard, which included Kelsey Grammer, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Robin Williams.
Personal life
Venora married cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak in 1980, but the couple divorced in 1989. Madzia, her daughter, spent more time with her daughter that year than eight. Venora spent time in New York City, working with homeless children and participating in occasional performances. She and her daughter moved to Los Angeles in 1994.
Career
Venora appeared extensively on stage, especially in Shakespearean plays, after graduation. In Wolfen (1981), she made her film debut alongside Albert Finney and Gregory Hines. She appeared in Joseph Papp's production of Hamlet at the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1983 as the first woman to appear in the role at the opulent theatre. She has a long history with Hamlet, as well as Ophelia opposite Kevin Kline and Gertrude opposite Ethan Hawke onscreen.
Her critically acclaimed appearance in Clint Eastwood's Bird in 1988 earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination and a New York Film Critics Circle Award.
Venora played a prominent role in the television series Chicago Hope in 1994, after taking five years off to care for her daughter.
