Early life
Barry, a 1981 student, was born in Modesto, California. He first saw Britney Spears on MTV when he was 15, and he first went to see her in concert in 2002. In 2003, he dressed as Spears for Halloween for the first time in drag. Spears' second time dressing as Spears came two weeks later on November 17, 2003, when Spears appeared as a guest star on The Tonight Show. Miss Don't H8 DIVA, where she was also recognized for the Hall of Fame, LEGEND Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Presidential Hall of Champions, Derrick was the 2010 ambassador for a National anti-bullying group Don't H8.
Personal life
As of January 2017, Barry was in a polyamorous friendship with Nick San Pedro and Mackenzie Claude, a drag queen who goes by the name Nebraska Thunderfuck, the drag daughter of Alaska Thunderfuck.
Barry incorrectly stated during a Billboard round table debate that people were killed during the Stonewall Riots in 2017; Willam, who was also present at the meeting, corrected him. Willam later based her song "Derrick" on the incident. Barry appeared in "Derrick"'s music video.
Career
Barry first attracted notice when he appeared on America's Got Talent's third season in 2008, with his talent as a Britney impersonator. He made it to the auditions but was disqualified in the quarterfinals. He appeared in the music videos for Eminem's "We Made You" and Katy Perry's "Waking Up in Vegas" in 2009. Madonna brought him on stage at one of her Rebel Heart Tour appearances in 2015.
On February 1, 2016, it was announced that Barry would be competing with 11 other drag queens for the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. In the first episode, he was the one-hundredth queen to be seen on the program. In the eighth episode, he was dropped after losing a lip sync to Bob the Drag Queen and landing fifth.
In acting, he first appeared as Julie in an episode of Dig in 2015. In 2016, he appeared in Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. In War on Everyone in 2016, he played Kimberly.
She appeared in season eleven of Drag Race for the first time. Vanessa Valiante Mateo and Silky Nutmeg Ganache appeared in an episode of Germany's Next Topmodel in 2019.
Barry Brown was selected one of a rotating cast of a dozen Drag Race queens in RuPaul's Drag Race Live!, a Las Vegas show residency from January to August 2020, at the Flamingo Las Vegas. The show will feature RuPaul's music and seven of the 12 queens: Barry, Aquaria (season ten), Coco Montrese (season five), All Stars season four), Kahanna Montrese (season eight), All Stars season four), and Shannel (season eight, season four). Barry had previous experience with Las Vegas drag shows, as part of Frank Marino's Divas Las Vegas and his appearance in Drag Queen Cuisine at House of Blues. Barry, along with the majority of RuPaul's Drag Race Live in March 2022, was in March 2022. Katy Perry appeared with her onstage at Resorts World Las Vegas during her Play concert residency.
During her appearance on The Talk, Barry joined Eve in her role as RuPaul's Supermodel.
Barry returned to RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2020, where she was the first queen eliminated from the competition and ranked 10th overall.
