Deborah Joy Imani Winans (born September 6, 1983) is an American actress and singer as well as a member of the musical Winans family.
In the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series Greenleaf, she is playing Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee.
Life and career
Winans was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Carvin and Deborah Kerr Winans. She earned her BFA degree from Wayne State University. She spent a month in Moscow at the Moscow Art Theatre School for additional training, and the California Institute of the Arts awarded an MFA degree in acting. She began acting in Fragile World, a small film, in 2014. In the Lifetime television biographical film Whitney, directed by Angela Bassett, she was later cast as her aunt CeCe Winans. Winans made her stage debut in the musical Born for This: The BeBe Winans Story later this year.
Winans appeared in a series regular role in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, Greenleaf, in 2015. She plays Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee, the family's youngest daughter, as well as the Minister of Music. Lynn Whitfield, Keith David, Merle Dandridge, and Kim Hawthorne appear in the series.
