Club career
David Luiz, born in Diadema, S. Paulo, was transferred to Ladislao and Regina Marinho by So Paulo and started playing as a defensive midfielder and nearly left the club after being dismissed by Sória, almost leaving the club due to his poor results in that position. However, he was soon promoted to central defender and adapted well.
David Luiz made his Vitória debut in 2006, winning by a 2–2 draw against Santa Cruz in the Copa do Brasil that year. During Menezes' reign, David Luiz was included in every squad, and he was called up to the squad for the Copa América in 2011, but did not participate in the tournament due to injuries. He scored an own goal in a friendly against Mexico in October of that year, but the Seleço eventually won it 2–1.
David Luiz captained Brazil for the first time on September 7, 2012, when the team defeated South Africa 1–0 victory over So Paulo. In 2013, he was selected to represent Brazil in his native country.
