David Denton Career

Club career

He went to Edinburgh to study economics at the University of Edinburgh. He played for Edinburgh Academicals while studying at university. Despite struggling to start with, playing in the 3rd XV for much of his first season, he made the transition into the Accies' 2nd team, "TWAYS," under Malcolm McVie's tutelage. Before playing for the Scottish National Academy, he was introduced to the Scotland under 20s system. In the 2010–11 season, he was given a permanent job at Edinburgh.

In the build-up to the showpiece, his performances in his debut season led him to his selection for Scotland's expanded World Cup squad. Denton is known to be a good ball carrier due to his endurance and agility (especially for a man of his size — 1.96 meters and 119 kg).

Denton put an end to rumors regarding his future (which had seen him linked to a transfer to Aviva Premiership) by signing a deal extension that saw him remain at Murrayfield until 2015.

Denton signed for Bath Rugby, an English club that competes in the Aviva Premiership from the 2015-16 season, on November 10, 2015.

Denton was announced on May 30th, 2017 that the Worcester Warriors, Bath's local rivals, would be moving from Bath to Worcester Warriors in the 2017-18 season. The Leicester Tigers announced the signing of Denton from Worcester for the 2018-19 season on February 14th. In September 2019, Denton was forced to withdraw from rugby due to concussion.

International career

In Scotland's 10–6 victory over Ireland in the Rugby World Cup warm-up matches in August 2011, Denton made his debut for Scotland by coming off the bench. However, he was not selected in the tournament's final squad. He appeared in all of Scotland's under-20s games in 2010 as well as in the IRB Junior World Championship. In 2010, he appeared for the Scottish Sevens team in the Dubai and George events.

Despite being on the losing side of Scotland's 6-13 loss to England in the first game of the 6 Nations on February 4, Denton won the "man of the match" award despite being on the losing side of the tournament. Despite being on the losing team, Denton was "Man of the Match" in the 6 Nations match against France on March 8, 2014. Following the announcement of the 6 Nations Squad for the 2018 tournament, Denton was called back into the squad after a long absence from the Scotland team following the summer tour of Japan in 2016.
