Dave Matthews Life

David John Matthews (born January 9, 1967) is a South African-born American singer, composer, guitarist, actor, and record label owner, best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band.

Matthews was born in Johannesburg and migrated frequently between South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as he increased.

Matthews began playing acoustic guitar at the age of nine. Matthews' primary focus, from 1991 to 2003, was songwriting and playing with the Dave Matthews Band, which he formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991.

Since then, he has appeared on several solo shows and released other albums.

During the decade from 2000 to 2010, his band sold more tickets and earned more money than every other act in North America.

The band's 2012 album Away from the World made them the only band to have six consecutive studio albums debut at number one on the Billboard charts.

With the 2018 release of Come Tomorrow, this record was extended to seven consecutive number one albums. Matthews has performed in more roles than music.

He has also received two Grammy Awards, one for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997 and another for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance from his solo album "Gravedigger."

Early life

David John Matthews was born in Johannesburg, the third of three children of parents John and Val Matthews. Matthews and his family migrated to Yorktown Heights, New York, where his father, a physicist, began working for IBM at the age of two years.

The Matthews family lived in Cambridge, England, for a year, then returned to New York, where his father died of lung cancer in 1977. Matthews attended his first concert when his mother brought him to a Pete Seeger performance when he was living in New York. In 1977, the family returned to Johannesburg.

In 1980, Matthews became a citizen of the United States.

He was faced with conscription into the South African military upon Matthews' graduation from Damelin College high school in 1985, just as civil disobedience to the activity was on the rise. Matthews, a Quaker and subsequently pacifist, left South Africa to avoid service.

Matthews moved to New York in 1986 where he worked with IBM for a short time before rejoining his mother in Charlottesville, Virginia, where Matthews' family lived in before he was born. He joined the Charlottesville music scene and became a member of the local music group. Despite the fact that Matthews began playing the guitar at the age of nine, it was only in Charlottesville that he first began performing publicly. Matthews met local actor (and future collaborator) Tim Reynolds through a mutual friend, Nic Cappon. In time, Reynolds had Matthews accompany him on stage, and Matthews was invited to perform some of his own songs. This culminated in his first professional musical appearance by the Miki Liszt Dance Company, headquartered in McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, where he performed "Meaningful Love," a song composed by John D'earth and Dawn Thompson. He had the desire to form his own band in 1991. Matthews bartended at Miller's in Charlottesville before recording his first demo.

Personal life

In 2000, Dave Matthews married Jennifer Ashley Harper, a long-serving girl. They have twin daughters born in 2001 and a son born in 2007. They live in Seattle. Matthews said he was agnostic in a 2001 interview. He joined the Farm Aid board of directors in 2001 to work alongside Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young to raise funds for family farmers in the United States.

When a flight attendant suspected him of abducting his biracial children and called police who were waiting for him when he landed in LA, a black guitarist who has worked with Dave Matthews and John Mayer slams American Airlines

After being told that one of his bi-racial children did not belong to him, a musician who has performed with John Mayer and The Dave Matthews Band took to social media to slam American Airlines. As the incident occurred, David Ryan Harris said he was flying from Atlanta to Los Angeles with two of his children. As the plane landed in LAX, Harris said an American representative and four police officers met them. 'Apparently, a flight attendant had raised some suspicion that perhaps my mixed children weren't my children because they were unresponsive,' Harris said in a video shared on Instagram.
