John Popper Life

John Popper (born March 29, 1967) is an American singer and songwriter.

He is best known for his role as the frontman of rock band Blues Traveler, who performs harmonica, guitar, and vocals.

Early life

John Popper was born in Chardon, Ohio. His father, a Hungarian immigrant, left Budapest in 1948. Popper is related to David Popper, a 19th-century European cellist whose many solo recitals for the cello are among the instrument's repertoire's staples. Lawyers represent John and his brother.

Popper was raised in Stamford, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. He attended Davenport Ridge School, Stamford Catholic High School (now Trinity Catholic High School), and Princeton High School, which he attended in 1986. He took lessons on the piano, the cello, and the guitar, but none of those instruments appealed to him, and he hated being forced to practice.

He intended to be a comedian, finding that he could make people and avoid bullies, but after a routine as the Blues Brothers, he discovered that musical performances were his favorite. He took up the harmonica from there. After an in-class solo on the song "She Blinded Me With Science," Popper performed trumpet in the Princeton High School Studio Jazz Band and begged the instructor to let him play harmonica instead.

He formed several garage bands with friends in Princeton, New Jersey, one of which developed into Blues Traveler in 1987. The group's members all migrated to New York City, where Popper, two of his bandmates, and a high school friend Chris Barron joined The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Popper was on display for three years but gave up full time after the band agreed to a new one in 1990.

Personal life

Popper has lived in various states, including rural Pennsylvania and New Orleans, since the success of Blues Traveler. He now has a home near Snohomish, Washington. John and his now ex-wife Jordan welcomed their first child, Eloise Ann, on November 23, 2015. In 2018, John and Jordan Auleb divorced.

When heading to a studio in October 1992 to record for Blues Traveler's third album, Popper was involved in a traffic collision on a motorcycle. Despite the difficulties the band faced, Popper remained touring with the band despite the fact that the band was struggling.

He had a near-fatal heart attack in 1999, which followed years of compulsive overeating. (He had been diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago) Doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center performed an emergency angioplasty that saved Popper's life; he had 95% arterial blockage. Popper's weight loss was due to gastric bypass surgery later this year.

"I WANT TO BE BRAVE," the popper has a tattoo across his chest.

In August 2016, he announced a pending surgical procedure to repair broken vertebrae in his neck, requiring the postponement and cancellation of several Blues Traveler shows.

Popper is a huge fan of armour, including pistols, swords, and a working $10,000 Civil War cannon. He cites a fascination with their designs of being "life-savingly effective" machines. Popper is a supporter of Second Amendment rights and appeared on a MTV-sponsored roundtable discussion on gun control that included representatives from the Law Enforcement Alliance of America and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He carries arms in any state where it is allowed, as well as taking them on stage. On his Daily Show appearance, he revealed that he moved away from New Jersey due to the state's tight gun regulations. He said his Bucks County, Pennsylvania property had 32 acres (13 ha) on which he constructed a private gun range.

Popper is a member of the Libertarian Party and has previously stated his support for the Republican Party. In the 2004 US presidential election, he endorsed George W. Bush. "This is the first time I've voted for a Democrat," Popper said about Barack Obama in November 2008. During Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign, John Popper was a backer of Ron Paul, even attending phone-banking at Ron Paul's New Hampshire campaign headquarters. During Ron Paul's "We Are the Future Rally," an alternative convention for Paul supporters held in Tampa the day before the 2012 Republican National Convention, he also performed a short set.

Popper (with and without Blues Traveler) has appeared at conventions, fundraisers, and awards for both Republican and Democratic politicians. Politics have no influence on his decision on performance setting, according to him.

"I was a bleeding-heart liberal before I got a job," Popper said, and he referred to himself as a "libertarian who is a Republican when pushed." "I believe in markets and rights for individuals," popper said, "I believe in democracy and human rights," he said. "I believe in democracy and human rights for individuals, so I guess that makes me a libertarian."

Popper has toured the United States both with Blues Traveler and solo, and with Blues Traveler and solo. In the mid-2000s, he toured the Middle East, appearing with the Band of the Air Force Reserve and Jamie O'Neal at various military camps.

He has appeared on Rock the Vote and has performed "The Preamble" for the Schoolhouse Rocks the Vote. This is an album.

Popper's most recent appearances on "Run-Around" and "Hook" have appeared on "The Star-Spangled Banner," as well as a version of "The Spangled Banner" by Bernie Sanders' "A Future to Believe In" rally at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Popper was raised Catholic, and for a time attended Stamford Catholic High School in Connecticut. However, he does not actively participate in his adult life. He has referred to himself as a "recovering Catholic." He wrote the song "Trina Magna" as an examination of his religious convictions. Through David Popper, he has Jewish roots.

Popper was jailed in 2003 for smoking marijuana. The Washington State Patrol arrested Popper again on March 6, 2007, near Ritzville, Washington, Washington. He was in possession of a tiny amount of marijuana and handguns in his own vehicle, which had been barred from racing, and was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and arms. Popper was released on the same night as the previous one. Four rifles, nine handguns, a switchblade knife, a Taser, a pair of brass knuckles, and night vision goggles were among the vehicle's hidden compartments. The vehicle was only confiscated for a brief period of time.

Popper was not charged with the weapons because they were all registered and safely locked away, and Popper was allowed to carry them, with the exception of the brass knuckles and switchblade knife, which Popper refused to hand over. If Popper remained free of further drug arrests for one year and attended eight hours of drug therapy, a pact was reached that allowed the marijuana charge to be dismissed. Popper and the driver had been driving back to Washington, Texas, from Austin, Texas, and Popper likes to explore weapon ranges on long rides.

Popper is also known as a devoted Twitter follower, but he has caused controversies on the web. Popper has also posted the home address and contact of a particular Twitter user who had often joked at his expense during Donald Trump's presidential campaign; it was the co-creator of this bot that Popper praised in July 2017.

Popper's autobiography, Suck and Blow: And Other Stories I'm Not Meant To Tell was published by Da Capo Press on March 29, 2016. With the help of Relix co-editor-in-chief Dean Budnick, Popper's autobiography, Suck and Blow. Popper discusses the band's recovery from the death of bassist Bobby Sheehan, as well as a slew of topics. Bill Graham's friendship with him, as well as his personal battle with being overweight, were all on display.

John Popper Career

Career

Popper, a founding member of Blues Traveler, has performed as the band's front man with lead vocals and harmonica. He foregoes the harmonica in favour of a guitar, the most often a 12-string acoustic. In addition, Popper has played the tin whistle on several recordings.

The majority of the lyrics and music of Blues Traveler's songs has been written by a prolific songwriter.

With extensive touring, sometimes with more than 300 dates per year, the band gained a following in the 1990s jam band scene. With their 1994 album four, the Blues Traveler soared to mainstream pop/rock radio, earning the group brisk media exposure. "Run-Around," a song that Popper composed, was named with the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1996. The Recording Academy nominated Blues Traveler's album "Best Traditional Blues Album" for the 2022 GRAMMY Awards in 2021.

Popper began performing occasional solo concerts in place of touring with Blues Traveler in 1990. Several songs that appeared as Popper's solo albums have now become part of Blues Traveler's collection, and vice versa.

Popper's mainstream success, he released Zygote as a solo album in 1999 and toured in favor of it with his own John Popper Band. Terry Manning's album was produced, and the backing band consisted of longtime Cyclergy, Crugie Riccio, and Rob Clores of Cycomotogoat, as well as drummer Carter Beauford of Dave Matthews Band. The album was released less than three months after heart surgery, and only days after Bobby Sheehan, Popper's bandmate and best friend's, died. The following tour was postponed midway due to poor ticket sales, but Popper continued to concentrate on his health.

Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes, Chris Barron, and Jonny Lang have all written songs with Jonny Lang. He has also appeared regularly as a guest performer with musicians from a variety of genres. Eric Clapton and B.B. has performed with, among others, jam band Spin Doctors, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and, most recently, the Allman Brothers Band; Spin Doctors, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and, most recently, the Allman Brothers Band. On the second day of the Smashing Pumpkins' acoustic 1997 Bridge School Benefit appearance, he performed harmony for their song "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans," earning a lot of praise from the audience. Bill Graham was also a member of the Grateful Dead at a tribute to him in 1991. In 2000, he was the harmonica player on Hanson's album This Time Around, for which he appeared on "If Only" and "In The City." He wrote, wrote, and performed the theme song for the ninth season of the sitcom Roseanne.

In 2017 and 2018, John began to perform solo acoustic concerts around the country. He is often joined by Blues Traveler keyboardist Ben Wilson, and he performs songs from both Blues Traveler and his extensive solo catalog.

Popper created the HORDE Festival in 1992 as a platform for up-and-coming independent musicians. It didn't exist until 1998.

Popper was a member of a one-time studio band formed in 1997 by New York drummer/songwriter Solomon Deniro. Trey Gunn, Bernie Worrell, Marc Ribot, and Vernon Reid were among the others on the team. The group's only recordings were released under the name of the Devotees, which was released on the album Gimme Gimme. Deniro re-released the same recording in 2001 under the name Solomon.

Popper took over as front man of Frogwings, a jam-band band that debuted the live album Croakin' at Toad's in 1998. Frogwings were most active until 2000.

Popper formed the John Popper Project, a rock/jazz/hip-hop combo band that debuted an album in 2006 and appears occasionally. Jason Miles and DJ Logic (2008)'s album Global Noize performs as a performer.

John Popper & the Duskray Troubadours, a American roots band, is Popper's new side project. 429 Records' self-titled debut was unveiled in March 2011 and was co-written by band member Jono Manson, who co-wrote much of the material. "Something Sweet," Manson and Bruce Donnola's first book, was published on iTunes on February 7, 2011. Before taking a short break, Mason and Popper devised the scheme after Popper said he was "running out of ideas" for Blues Traveler.
