Danny Seraphine Life

Daniel Peter Seraphine (born August 28, 1948) is an American drummer, record producer, theatre designer, and film producer.

He is best known as the original drummer and founding member of Chicago's band Chicago, which lasted from February 1967 to May 1990.

Early life

Daniel Peter Seraphine was born in Chicago to John and Mary Seraphine. The family lived in Chicago's northwest side, in the Dunning neighborhood. While attending St. Priscilla Catholic Grade School, he began playing drums at the age of nine. Seraphine escaped from Steinmetz High School when he was 15 years old. He was a member of the JPs, a local gang that went outside of school.

Dick Clark's road band began in December 1965 after deciding to leave as a professional drummer, and he was invited to join Jimmy Ford and the Executives. Terry Kath on bass and Walter Parazaider on saxophone were already playing in the band, while Walter Parazaider on saxophone. The three of them were invited to join The Missing Links after being let go from Jimmy Ford and the Executives as it merged with another local band, Little Artie and the Pharaohs (under the new name, The Mob).

He worked privately with percussionist Bob Tilles at DePaul University, where future Chicago residents were also studying. Seraphine cites his influences as Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Grady Tate, Mitch Mitchell, and Hal Blaine.

Chuck Flores continued his education, then two years of study under jazz drummer Jo Jones (also known as Papa Jo Jones) in the mid-1970s.
