Education
Martinez competed at Marcos de Niza High School and then enrolled in Pima Community College, where he competed and trained with the likes of Efrain Escudero, Jamie Varner, and Anthony Birchak.
Martinez, a native Arizona, began his mixed martial arts career in 2006, placing first at lightweight and then featherweight in regional promotions, primarily throughout the Southwestern United States. Martinez defyned Hominick in 2008, where Hominick defeated Martinez by unanimous decision.
